Scholes, ITV disgrace

re atmosphere:

1) empty seats before the match/lack of pre match atmosphere
- City fans have always got to the ground LATE. City fans are old school, and are often in the pub instead of looking at blades of grass hours before (like the rags and Liverpool).
- City fans are working and travelling to the game. We are not rich tourists who either don't work or get the whole day off to travel up (rags/Liverpool)

2) non attendance of fans (I don't know any season ticket holder who went last night)
- the expense
- shit atmosphere/tourists
- getting BANNED for trying to start an atmosphere with letters relating to ''persisting standing and singing " whereas showshec have given up where we are in league games.
- lack of beer in ground
- lastly and probably one that shouldn't be a factor - the expectation that we are shit in Europe
-

- on a personal note, I work long hours and struggle to make week night kick offs (And I work in the city centre). Further, I suffer from crazy insomnia and I get so involved in the match (Especially when we are shit or are being screwed by the officials) that i'm so 'hyped' up I get no sleep at all. SO in a sea of fans that don't sing, sometimes I think you know what, its not worth it.

Yep! Just about sums it up.

I thjnk Scholes has a point. Last night was a big night for us, and the atmosphere was abysmal, we never make the Etihad a cauldron of noise for the opposition, and its something that can make a difference.

I wouldn't go so far as to say we are shit in Europe, but I think a lot of City fans are muted by the players inability to emulate the kind of flowing football we often see in the PL. There seems a certain holding in of breath waiting for the silky movement. There was one last night that nearly bore fruit but there seems to be an inbuilt acceptance that things won't turn out well! We're getting the post-match frustrated feelings in first.

Fucking outstanding effort. Now you are trying to proportion blame to the stewards for why there is no atmosphere at a midweek game. Take a bow son because it is going to take some effort to beat being the **** of the day award.

But they don't, because us City fans are only a very small part of the target audience, most of whom don't really like us, and are tuning in to see us fail. Having pundits and presenters sticking the boot into City is part of the "entertainment package". It's not an agenda, it is simply giving the masses what they want.

ABsolute BOLLOCKS. 90% of the UK (maybe Europe?) HATE The scum.

don't let this ' buy success' bullshit fool you. City have always been well liked generally because of the shit we have gone through, the humour and loyalty of the fans etc etc etc

But then along came the money, and then the jealousy, and then the bitterness. By and large mate, fans of other clubs now want to see City fail, particularly on the European stage. ITV and Sky know this and set their cloth accordingly. That is why we find Paul Scholes on our tellies.

Besides, name me a ex-city player, with credible Champions League experience, who could be the "city pundit"? David James? Robbie Fowler? Dietmer Hamann? the names don't exactly trip off the tongue. Much as we would all like to see Patrick Viera on the box, he simply doesn't fit with the product that Sky and ITV are producing, and it's probable that he's prohibited from direct media appearances by the club anyway, as a conflict of interest.

Ultimately, the media have a product, and an audience, and whether we like it or not, the programmes look set to be shit for us for the foreseeable future.

are you on a wind up?!?

the majority of 109 get banned for singing.

my mates who bothered to pay the money for the Europe scheme all got banned for 'standing and PERSISTENT SINGING' last year. That was their reward for going to the Europe games; when I honestly thought 'fuck it, whats the point'.

Fans at Europe games are treated differently because the 'usuals' are not there, its full of tourists and they try and make an example.

do you work for showsec by the way? showsec are not stewards... they are cunts.

I've yet to meet many fans that hate us. Reality is very different to the SKY/Media reality that truly hate us.

How about the world cup winner Viera? How does he have more of a conflict of interest than the chuckles or scholes?

I'm pretty sure keegan is just as, if not more, successful than souness?

hamann has won more than rednapp.

Success doesn't mean that you can't be a dull, bias, drone of a **** like scholes.

Andy Townsend didn't win much but hes much better than any of the rags or spice boys.

I thought it looked quite full on TV. Was surprised to hear so much talk about the attendance. There was a couple of rows behind one goal and the upper tier above the Roma fans was empty, but that was segregation. I'm pretty sure our allocation was practically sold out.

I couldn't get there myself, my young lad is going for his Karate black belt at the weekend, so we're busy practising.
