Scotland - Does anyone go?

Probably because so many English live in Edinburgh

So true, among so many other nationalities of course. Partly where I was going with it, in fairness.

I know my opinion and experience, but will hold off till the response as I am genuinely interested.

I have been..it is hard to make generalisations, but from personal experience Edinburgh was not pleasant or welcoming in the establishments I visited..The worst place in the UK was Anglesey. I speak as I find..in the UK the English are not always welcome. Yet in England, I find us to be more welcoming to our neighbours..love the Irish and never had grief north or south.
the East of Scotland persona and Edinburgh can be a little dour and seemingly unfriendly. Thats just how we are - a bit reserved in general compared to Glasgow and the West Coast where you will be their bestest friend one moment and chib you the next ;-).

Before anyone starts, only joking and I am as free to throw around Scottish stereotypes as my English friends.

I try to get up there every year. Went to Inverness and Dorres last year. The Outer Hebrides and Skye just edge it over the Highlands for me though. Never had a problem with the locals. It's a myth.
I never had any problems on holidays but when I moved up there it was a different matter. Lots of great people don’t get me wrong but a nasty undercurrent of hatred that seems to be getting worse amongst a large minority.

Where ? 21 years here, never come across it.

Really? Based on what out of interest?

Sorry don't mean to derail the thread, just curious what makes you think that.
Just based on my experience, I lived in the Glasgow area but worked In and around Edinburgh. I made some good friends up there over 15 years and the majority had salt n sauce on their chips.
