Only ever really gone there with work. Cold, wet, windy and snowy and when its not its warm and midge infested so you get bitten to buggery. I find the cities very stark - I was in Glasgow looking for a bench to sit down and have a sarnie - couldn't find one - seems all very Presbyterian and built more for making money rather than attending to worker welfare.
Some of the "new towns" thrown up in the 70's are the worst - they remind me of bits of South Wales - Christ the working classes have been poorly served over the decades with affordable housing.
Ultimately I think holidays in the UK my face turns south to where there is warmth and sunshine.
