Scotland Independance Referendum

I say let them go independent if for no other reason than to finally put to bed any suggestion that Celtic could ever get to play in the premier league

Damn it, you're right

I wouldn't miss the anti-English rhetoric but if we lose them we also lose a lot of Labour seats meaning the Tories can come up with even more extreme policies. We may not have much of an opposition at the moment but we'd become a single-party country if the Scots vote Out. Voters of all parties must see this is not an ideal proposition.

What pisses me off is the thought that they might actually vote no.

Would be great if England and Wales had there own vote and told them to do one[/quote

Pretty much, gut feeling yes.

You think i should remove emotion and try my best to make a logical decision based upon as much fact i can sift from the agenda driven turdstream as i can?

I do. I think that you should remember that you are making a decision that you will have to explain to your Grandkids, and will have to explain why you did something. I can't help but feel that if the answer is "because I got caught up in it" then you'll leave both you and them dissatisfied.

the chance to cast off the bonds of westminster surely cannot be missed. it would give hope to the regions that one day they might do the same

I want Scotland to be part of the UK. I think it's ridiculous that from such a small island, we can't all get along and class ourselves as British.

Yup agree with this

What gets me is why they get to have a say on it but England and Wales don't since we're part of the United Kingdom as well. If they want to go then we better cut them off completely no more free hand outs, they can fund their own health service and universities and armed forces and they can forget about keeping the pound.

Yes, ideally that's how i feel i should make the decision.

The reality is though, with the amount of uncertainty involved, a logical decision feels basically impossible. Maybe if i'd studied economics, or social science, i'd have a stronger opinion on how we'd fare (although it seems those that have are split anyway), but as far as i can see, countries of a similar potential size range from amongst the highest standard of living in the World to failed states. And thats assuming that standard of living is the only important thing. Maybe it's better to have a slightly lower standard of living if it means more control over your own destiny.

My logical train of thought has led me to the conclusion that i can't make the decision logically. I don't have the information, there's too many variables and too much out of our control.

It really boils down to take a risk or play safe, since i don't know the odds it's a gut decision.

Yes, I'd love the Scots, and with no input from us whatsoever, to implement this.
Now that really would be a laugh 2 years down the line.

this would be fascinating, to see if they can shake off the grime of our political system for a shiny new, egalitarian one - the realist in me has grave doubts, but the optimist is rooting for them :)

Surely the IMF would be called in before that, AC?
