I think the treatment of Harry Maguire has gone too far now and Gareth Southgate has played his part in that.

It's out and out bullying now. The constant memes and videos online, the articles written by so-called professional journalists, the Arsenal and Scotland fans cheering him onto the pitch and mocking his every touch (don't get me wrong, football fans en masse aren't likely to consider the feelings of an opposition player if they can gain a slight advantage for their own team).

A long time ago, Southgate should've taken him out of the firing line and he should've been more a cameo player for England to keep him involved rather than a guaranteed starter regardless of him having a torrid time at United.

Maguire's said all the right things since Tuesday night, but his mental state must be shocking at present. His problem is that every time he appears for United or England, he is under such incredible pressure not to making the slightest mistake or the situation gets far worse. I actually felt sorry for him the other night and didn't find his own goal amusing in the slightest.

He maybe should have made the move away from United during the summer and cleared his head away from the goldfish bowl but how many players (Zinchenko, Stones, Phillips at City to name a few) have dug their heels in when struggling at a club out of personal pride and back themselves to turn things around at a club they really want to be at?

I just hope this doesn't turn into a major issue for him.
Don't worry.

He's sent his mummy in to tell everyone off.

Totally agree

And I think Southgate has also played his part. Loyalty is great in some aspects of life but loyalty can also mean you make decisions to protect someone. Southgate has totally misjudged this one in my opinion.

Problem Southgate has now is he will feel he can't drop him now because it's like he's siding with those he's defending Maguire from. So he's dug himself an even deeper hole.

Maguire really needs to be left out the squad and move from united. If he does that and hits some form and gets back in the England team on merit, then fair play, no problem. Or even if he was somehow to get back in the United team and get in on merit, fine.

But for everyone's sake, Southgate needs to leave him out for the time being, even if he means himself being mocked for doing so after defending Maguire, he'll have to take that on the chin. But its the right thing to do if he truly cares about Maguire.

I’ll never forget when Scotland were chasing a goal they desperately needed and the then manager had a choice . Iwelumo or Kris Boyd and he brought on Iwelumo hahaha .. what a miss!!

He’s a likeable big guy and not a bad pundit but deary me!
His voice certainly isn’t the one you expect to hear come out of his mouth.
