Maicon & Sinclair, does that mean we've moved backwards

in terms of signing big names yes, but if they are an improvement on savic and johnson respectively, then no

Is sinclair better than Johnno though? I don't think he is. Johnno was a **** I suppose but that's about it

Looks like we're stagnating whilst others have strengthened, or at least not moving forward enough

Even if he's of equal ability as Johnson, if he turns out not to be a **** then that's an improvement surely

ok hes a name but he's not a big signing like he would have been a couple of years ago.

fat ronaldo is still a big name but you wouldn't be happy signing him
a friend of mine who is a fan and has watched every Inter game over last zillion years, including a handful in person, has Maicon as Inter's best player and says that he is still absolutely world class - i have no reason not to trust him. he is furious at Moratti wanting Maicon out.
and regarding fat Ronaldo - he is my all-time favourite player so cut it out! :)

It's funny that I've watched every city game last 20 years and I haven't seen Scott Sinclair play for city

Ok. From now on no one in the transfer forum is allowed to comment on potential signings because we've never seen them play for City. Luke chadwick? Might be good cos no one's ever seen him play for city. Danny shittu? Might be good cos no one's ever seen him play for city etc

I see your point, just annoys me fans saying a player is rubbish or not good enough. If city thought that he wasn't good enough why are they buying him?
Because we need someone like him but are cutting back way too much and settling for cheaper and far more inferior options is my guess

Maicon hasn't signed, but to say he's not a 'name' is ridiculous even for this forum.

Bizarre argument. Fat Ronaldo doesnt play anymore. Maicon is 31 and therefore still plays football. Think I get what you're trying to say though.

what I'm saying is that while maicon is a big name (given that he was regarded as the best RB in the world for several years - maybe still is), its a bit like signing vieira, in that he's past his best and is coming as a cheap option who is likely to be signed for squad purposes.

if we were signing dani alves, he would be a big signing.

we singed carlos tevez, he was a big signing. if we signed him age 31 after he lost his ability he wouldn't be as big a signing.

-- Thu Aug 30, 2012 11:17 am --

maybe he still is, i haven't watched him since the world cup in 2010 when he scored an unbelievably good/lucky goal.

probably won't end up signing him anyway

Agreed but I don't think he's of equal ability to Johnson

We have to have a quota of British players

I think this point is the key to the sinclai / rodwell signings. With mancini looking to play 3 at the back then it makes sense to have at least one natural winger. I expect his main roll will be from the bench but if he makes the step up then who knows.

What I do know is we shouldn't be slagging any new player off before he has even played for us.

Manchester City and Swansea have agreed a £6.2m fee for winger Scott Sinclair.

The 23-year-old is now set to have a medical this afternoon ahead of a move to the Etihad Stadium. It is thought he will sign a four-year deal.

Sinclair will come in to replace Adam Johnson, who moved to Sunderland last week in a £12m deal.

Just in case you haven't seen it

apparently finalising his move today according to talksport
