Scottish flags at COMS...

Why?

I saw a few today, which I had not noticed before...

We have no Scottish players in the first team, and thus have little or no reason to have any association with Scotland, so why are these bigots trying to associate themselves with our religion-free club?

They tried their best to tag along when we played Celtic in a pre season friendly at Celtic Park.

Why do these people try and associate themselves with us?

The sectarian nonsense that they bring is a crippling disease which we need to steer clear of. And pardon my ignorance, but I thought the Scottish hated the English, well that's certainly the general consensus isn't it?

We are a religion-free club, and always have been. Please take your disease elsewhere.

stb, you are misguided on this one. Nothing to do with religion. More flags and the bigger the better, I say. Especially if they were flying high across one whole end. Oh, did I say that? One end?

OPERATION 'ONE END'

If our owners can splash the cash on players, they can shape-up and give us 'ONE END'.

Thank you.

Egotistical idiots.

Just to have a saltire with Man City and a persons name on, it was just 'look at me' self promotion.

It is Manchester City not Glasgow City.

I don't know about Rangers supporters who also support City, I think I've met more Hearts supporters who also support City, can anyone think of a reason for that? Did one of our better Scottish players bring them with him?

Don't know the reason, but I know that for years they have taken a bus down from the Tyncastle Arms to City on a regular basis.

Cannot see the connection. Surely they were saying we are City fans from Scotland. They didn't say they were xenophobic, racist or bigots.

This thread has got a bit out of hand, and the original post is foolish if nothing else. You can't possibly stereotype about anyone's opinions, background or beliefs. I was down at the Wigan game yesterday and saw a couple of flags including the Saltire and Tricolour already mentioned. There's maybe no Scots currently in the side however they play a big part in Manchester City history from Maley in the early 20th century, to keeper MacCrae in the 70's, and the bargain bin players McNeill signed in the early/mid 80's (when I became a fan myself) through to Dickov. This would also dispel the "bandwagon" $hite being spouted. I have followed City for 25 years and don't need told who I can and can't support. There has been a tradition in Scotland and Ireland (North & South) to follow a local side and have an "English team" and surely this can't be a problem for people? If anything it's a compliment to MCFC and the English game? When I travel down I wear City colours and have no interest in preaching where i'm from and what half of Glasgow I support. If someone asks i'll politely say but the bottom line is we all have the best interests of Manchester City at heart surely?!

Those flags has nothing to do with religion?
Btw, isn't city a protestant club, like most in England, because we have a Chaplin?

I think a lot of it started from the 4 team pre-season tournament in Edinburgh in 1979 in which City and Coventry were the English teams that took part - 16 year old Tommy Caton's debut, in a non-competitive game maybe? A lot of friendships were struck at that time which seemed to stick, and looks like has carried on down the years. Certainly for a time some fans went up to Edinburgh on occasion and were royally looked after at a branch of the Hearts supporters club just opposite Haymarket station.

The Hearts fans had a classic song at the time:

Hearts, Hearts,
Glourious Hearts,
We play at Tynecastle
And called the Jam tarts,
We play in maroon
We're the talk of the toun,
We are the Heart of Midlothian

(all together)

H - E - A
R - T - S,
If you cannae spell it then you must be pis*ed!

When I moved up to Scotland in 1980 Hearts were the team I followed up there, because of this.
