Scottish Independence

We’re having a debate. How’s it a rant?

I think this means that you cannot come back to my points and therefore agree?
You don't do debate mate. I dont agree with anything you have written but don't care enough about your opinion to make the effort to respond to you as you will just rant like you did in your last post. Have a good one.

Again, this just smacks of “shit I don’t have a response to this as it’s correct”.

Enjoy your day.

Or rename the lot and call it something else like Great Nirvana, but nationalists on all sides would cringe at that plan. They don't want to be together the politicians in all the home nations want power in their own neck of the woods. In reality the little people the average Jack and Jill just want to get on with their lives without listening to the constant bleating of the power hungry nationalists on all sides.
A federal system would put decision making nearer to where it had effect. Would not the bleating of nationalists be silenced?

If we were all one country it would be silenced even more, no matter what the eventuality there are still going to be dissidents we can't keep everyone happy bud.

That would be true, had Scotland voted Yes in 2014, most called for a rerun of the vote and the SNP gained their biggest majority for half a century.

But fundamentally they lost in 2014 and many will vote SNP without supporting independence, because they’re the only viable centrist party in Scotland.

I think it's fair to say Brexit and the subsequent GE result are fundamental changes to the landscape that warrant the question being asked again. Had Labour won the election on their 2nd ref promise, or Lib Dems with revoke (as incredibly unlikely as either were, and proved to be), we'd have been saying the same down here. If people are voting SNP for reasons other than independence, then it would come to light in the result.

No you can't but you can counter the arguments of the nationalists and offer, the growing support amongst some unionists that voted no last time and are having second thoughts, an alternative to full independence.
That is one argument put forward about brexit after all that if the EU had been more flexible Cameron wouldn't have lost the referendum may not even have had one.

The mandate from the Scottish people was set in 2014 and I don’t believe in rerunning referenda until one side gets what they wish. It’s terribly irresponsible and thrusts whole geographical regions into being unstable.
A fair point, but that's not really what's happening here is it?at the time of the last vote they were told leaving the union meant losing their right to be in the eu and I believe they voted accordingly.

The SNP and their followers are but a blip in the history of the UK and I’ll be damned if their nationalist, English hating, detail lacking screeches break up the union.
Well I'm not a fan of theirs either but they do have just cause and mandate to hold another vote

Now if you want to debate the merits of breaking up the union, I’m here for you
I see no merit in breaking up the union, but I see absolutely none in the denial of democracy

Mrs Merkel said the other day that Brexit showed the need for EU to listen more to the people. In our case, however, Cameron was hopelessly under prepared and couldn't articulate our doubts and fears.
As Mekel said at the time "He didn't ask for anything".
