Seat Counters - 2022/23

I agree. We need a home end that is visually intimidating/impressive as well as being noisy. That makes up for the numerous swathes of newbies/tourists who are pictured in the crowd taking selfies and filming things. Personally I think it would be best to have all the singers clubbed together in SS Level 3 (unless or until we get a NS "wall") because the design of the roof maximises noise retention up there.
Oh god I’ve been banging on about this since it was built. City fucked up royally. That was the chance.

Nice point but not so much with the follow up idea. You can’t have an intimidating/impressive visual and noisy home end up in the third tier. For it to be visually great and have some sort of intimidation it needs to be pitch side.

I’m terms of noise, we need to stop blaming roofs and things of that nature. Yeah, modern stadium don’t always help the atmosphere but they’re not the be all and end all. The Etihad is as loud and rockin as Maine Road ever was for an all seater big game when it all gets going. We’ve seen extremely loud away followings from teams in Europe as well, which don’t seem to be impacted by the stadium either.

What’s impacted general atmosphere more than anything is a change in culture brought about by rising ticket prices over the last 25 years. it’s changed the demographic of the crowd. People in general are more reserved and less rowdy.

I think the only way around this is to congregate as many like minded people together in one section as possible to try and things get going. It’s easier said than done though and even the 1894 group have trouble getting this done.

You can have the singers up there and the banners across the stand. The noise can be excellent at the Etihad but the roof design was to allow noise out and the weather in for optimum conditions with the pitch. It's referenced in the application for the expansion. I've read the documents in detail because I've always been interested in the stadium development. They missed a trick getting the third tier as a singing section and rumours are the NS will mirror the design so we'll not have a home "wall" which many have seen as the final opportunity. The corners have been designed to be replaced if and when the side stands are expanded. At that point the roof will retain noise, with the corners probably having gaps for the weather to get in for the pitch conditions. That will make a difference. We've all been to old grounds where the roofs slope towards the pitch and the sides are contained. It could be a few hundred singing and it sounds ridiculously loud. I agree it's not the only issue - where the hardcore sit is the main one as we've all been at the Etihad when it's been rocking. The roof would just take that up a notch and would help contain noise which should then see more people join in with the songs.

I wish people would stop saying this. Nobody is intimated or motivated by a banner or a few fucking flags. It's noise that matters and the proper noise happens when the whole stadium sing, and they do it when the signing end leads them with a loud noise they can all quickly join in with.

I happen to believe that the people in the singing areas aren't aware of how disjointed things are where they are. Two songs going at once, daft clapalong songs about ex players, etc. The proper noise comes not when 400 lads are clapping along to "Never Felt More like singing the blues". The proper noise comes when the South Stand upper tier belt out "Blue Moon" or "We're Not Really Here" and everyone joins in.

The best example ever was the first ever game v Chelsea when it opened.

Great point on the songs.

Not enough classic songs and clear and simple ones about current players.

Whatever happened to ‘oh when the blues go marching in’ and the like? A song everyone knows and people can easily get involved in.

The rest of the stadium doesn’t give a shit about singing an Edin Dzeko song. Half the crowd was on his back most of the time he was here!

1734 left for Chelsea at home in the League/Milk/Rumbelows/Littlewoods/Coca-Cola/Carabao Cup.

No sign of any UEFA returns for Sevilla at home yet on the planner but if any get added they'll get gobbled up quickly going off how quickly we've sold out that one.

Yep, that first game v Chelsea it was so loud, I was in South Stand level 1 and my ears were ringing...that's only happened a couple of times in the stadiums history (2003 onwards)

its really odd.
I'm up in 318,been there since it was opened.
sometimes its bang on,other times indifferent, this season a bit better for some reason.

but whats really odd,yet not surprising, the noise,or lack of it from ss1 rarely reaches us up there,
it never seems loud where I'am from down on level 1,yet when i watch a few youtube vids from level 1 it souds really loud and boisterous etc

The noise has to come from the 3rd tier. The roof would make a difference in sending noise around the ground. It gets lost from SSL1. We've probably missed the boat there though. If they do a single tier in the NS or a large expanded 2nd tier the chance would offer itself again. Palace have shown how it doesn't take many grouped together to improve atmosphere. Selhurst was half empty and devoid of any atmosphere until their "ultras" took it upon themselves to improve things. We don't need drums and shit like that, but a group of likeminded fans there to start songs and generate atmosphere is all it needs. The Holmesdale is very old fashioned and helps keep the noise in. They've also got a couple of good songs that the whole end/stadium join in on. The videos of "we follow" from Wembley with the whole Palace end bouncing are pretty amazing. And that just comes from a dedicated group coming up with new songs.

We've got some pretty good ones that everyone would join in with. Blue Moon, We're not really here, We've got Guardiola. It just needs a group coming up with some new catchy ones as well which look to the current team or our success. Something about beating the scousers again. Beating QPR and Villa on the final day. Getting 100pts. Winning the domestic treble. Plenty to sing about which doesn't involve Edin Dzeko!

my 15 year old comes up with good uns from time to time.
like when we're sung at ,that we've never won the european cup/champs league.

he says

100 points,you'll never see that
100 points,you'll never do that

or

all 3 domestic cups
you'll never see that
you'll never do that

amazes me , we let forest, villa, chelsea sing that to us,and we don't reply with a greater achievement

Don't forget that the original stadium roof has never been conducive to holding noise within the bowl - on three sides the roof leans backwards - when they did the new South Stand Roof it was constructed with a downward facing roof which is much better at holding the noise in the stadium, but of course its only one end. I am convinced this is part of the problem

We should definitely sing more about our success. We should face into the European Cup in a true City way - to show we're not bothered.

We spoke to Pep and shared our dream
To win the Champions League
He said one day it might come our way
Just make sure you believe
But until then we'll win the league and then we'll win it again
While Anfield is crying we'll keep on buying
And we'll win it again and again

^My 15 year old came up with that one (cough cough)

I often wondered why sometimes when its quiet up there ( I'm on the back row ) , if i drop one its seems to ricochet here there and everywhere ;-)

Do I not like clapping songs. They should be banned from the Etihad.
A filthy Rag habit.

I know. Also, if you sit on the right hand side of the Colin bell upper tier( looking from the pitch) which is where I am, you can hear the singing in the two singing areas clearly, even though you are pretty much as far away as you can be. If you sit on the bottom tier of the Colin bell left hand side which is very close to the singing areas, you can’t hear them. The sound from the bottom tiers drifts upwards and out of the stadium whereas the sound from the top tiers fills the bowl.

The only area that produces proper sound is your area but I keep hearing people say what you say: you can’t hear anything. It literally couldn’t be a worse design for songs to spread. That’s why the only practical solution is for the singers to be in the top tier but they won’t. The introduction of rail seating has probably killed that potential off forever.

The clapping song.
Three-six-nine the goose drank wine. The monkey chewed tobacco on the street car line. The line broke the monkey got choked and they all ..
Not allowed anymore.

I agree in a way.
but the other week, copenhagen in the bottem ss level 1 were very loud,i don't even think they were sold out down there but made a real racket, and could be heard from where we were.

This is the be-all and end-all of atmospheric discussion.

If more people sang, the atmosphere would improve. The stadium isn't conducive to a noisy atmosphere, but if you filled it with 50k Poznan fans it would be the loudest stadium on this Island by a country mile.

We just need to turn the 500 regular singers around the stadium into 5k and that would be a brilliant start.

i tried to get a ticket for today but all gone, so i thought get brenford ticket and all gone, going to try and get a couple for next year now
