When an away team sells out there are extra restrictions on the home team selling, that is the way it has worked at City since the 90s.

It isn't a case of "they did that so we can". If City had sold first there would have been issues with Salford putting them on open sale, and if City had expected to sell out they would have blocked it like Liverpool do.
If it's genuinely security related, why is there no requirement of previous purchase history? Any Salford fan/rag could right now go on the website and buy a ticket with a brand new matchday membership, not very secure at all. Just conveniently costs extra
