I say this every semi. People can buy in families or groups of mates from the off instead of arsing around waiting for people to qualify or whatever.

I don’t agree with this at all. I think the vast majority of fans of all clubs would prefer the old neutral ground method. I’ve literally never talked to a fan of any club in person or online who didn’t think this.

Well the first part is an opinion. The second part is fact. Tottenham and Arsenal lobbied the FA to have their semi at Wembley in ‘91. The FA were reluctant and wanted to keep Wembley for the Final and not dilute the occasion. But because both teams were just down the road and ticket demand was high, they relented.

Then two years later, the two Sheffield teams used that as a precedent and pressurised the FA for Wembley for their semi.

It’s indisputable that using Wembley for semis has its origins in fan pressure.

Yes and also the grounds in the midlands are shit. Villa Park is awful and the area a khazi.

The semis should not be at Wembley. It takes the shine off the final. Especially when two Northern teams or two teams like City and Forest could use Old Trafford which would be much better for both sets of fans.

I don't disagree that it shouldn't be at Wembley.
But the vast majority of supporters never go to away games, because people like me and you hog the tickets.
So they get a chance and find an excuse.
It isn't that far, and if we lose they will not have been to a game away from the Etihad for another year.
Doesnt worry me if people don't go, just wish they wouldn't make excuses.
Villa is a poor Stadium now, and United ground is hopeless. Etihad and Anfield maybe. But it's never going to happen.

People change with age and circumstances and while yes, to an extent football still excites me, it doesn't to the level it used to. Reading comments on various threads I don't think I'm alone in those feelings. As I said in the post you quoted me on no amount of cajoling or guilt tripping will change people's opinion on attending the semi final if they've decided not to do so. For those that still love it fantastic, go and enjoy your day/weekend. For everyone one of us who feel a little jaded with it, can't afford it or just can't be bothered it gives an opportunity to somebody who will savour every minute of the occasion and that makes me happy.

I respect that opinion.
I see it slightly different as every year could be my last chance. Getting old and slow, just one more chance, may not get there again while I'm here.

That was 30 odd years ago and they were ultra rare local derbies. And football was a different game with different ticket and transport prices.

That wasn’t the “origins” of this. The origins of this was the building of the new Wembley and the need to recoup costs.

I stand by my point. City are miles away from being the only fans who don’t want this. The vast majority of all fans don’t want this.

Both of those semi finals you mention were played at the old Wembley, years before the new ground was built.

Repaying the extortionate build costs of the new Wembley is the driving force behind the semi finals being staged there. Their cup, their stadium, and it has to be paid for at every available opportunity.
