Security at the Etihad

I take a bag because I have to have my medication with me & my bottle of water. It's £2.00 in the ground & I love City to bits but am not paying that much for a bottle of water, sorry. I need the water as part of my medication. BUT I don't object to being searched as I prefer that to what could be the alternative. It's only a small bag so won't take long to search!! Plus we are leaving for the game early to be sure of being in on time.

They (the terrorists) won't stop me living my normal life but I will take sensible precautions.

I didn't know you posted on here mum! I wrote about you on the previous page! I guess pretending you were from Eccles hid your identity from me ;)

(sorry for the joke Eccles Blue! And i fully agree with what you're saying)

This is exactly what we don't need to do. We need to continue, as a society, with life and plans and business exactly how we always do. The moment we start changing is the moment these cunts start to win the war. They'll never win in battle but this is how they win, by scaring us all into changing our ways and society. City would lose out on money if we closed the shop early. We shouldn't let these fucking nutjobs stop City earning money!

Yeah, wasn't entirely serious there. More mocking the suggestion that bags should be banned.

Absolutely ridiculous that people feel that bags should be banned.

As has been alluded to already, people have to take medication and such with them. My dad has just had a stoma fitted after having a cancerous tumour removed.

Luckily for us, City have been excellent, and from the Southampton game onwards have moved our s/c seats, to near disabled toilets, and up in level 3 by lift. He will be bringing a bag with him with spare bags, medication and also other medical things.

As always we will get there earlier so checks can be made.

Not so long ago we all had to take medication to the match

Unless they introduce airport style security, isn't checking bags just a token gesture? It seems unlikely that terrorists will be carrying obvious weapons or bombs in a rucksack. They're more likely to be wearing suicide vests. Explosive devices will be concealed in electronic devices (are they being banned?) or bottles of water. It would be interesting to know what guidelines will be given to the stewards on what they are actually looking for. Do stewards receive training in identifying what constitutes a suspicious item?

Banning a woman's handbag? Just cos i assumer you're a bloke who goes a for piss up and if they buy a prog shove it in their back pocket along with your wallet (and wonder why you lose your wallet?!) PLENTY of people need a bag, a small one.
Medication for example (and her purse, phone, bits and bobs - we don't all drive, you try getting a bus for an hour with nowt with you) - My mum needs to take quite a few bits with her, if she shoved it all in her coat pockets she'd be bulging so much they'd think she had a bombvest on under it!
Personally if we're getting this paranoid i suggest we all go there topless, just to prove we havn't got anything strapped to ourselves to take everyone out with ;)

Rubbish! You think that's what bags are full of?!

So it's ok to expect people to go without things they NEED with them if they are out of the house for 4 hours? But you guys go apeshit when there's no alcohol in the stadium on euro nights cos you can't go to a match without drinking?! And don't get me started on the idiots who can't last without smoking. But hey - they're all ok by you cos they don't need a bag!

Anyway, the city store wouldn't do much trade on a match day if people can't take in what they've just bought in a bag!

Spot on. No need to ban bags. If some nutter wants to blow us up, he will probably wearing the device, not carrying it.

Easy to say if ur local but we come up on the train make a day of it do some shopping then travel back . What are we supposed to do with our things ?

Never thought about that side of it to be honest with you, so that's where its "absolutely nessesary" to bring one. I just think that if the usual numbers turn up with bags we are going to be queing round the stadium at 05.30.

The way i see it is this. Im a S/C holder. Like most of you on here. I sit in the same place every week. I know pretty much every face within a given radius. I imagine all the people around me see the same, as would your selves. When you get to your seat on saturday have a ganders around you for all your familiar faces. If you see someone out of place, a non regular who doesnt appear to be showing any interest in the footy then report that person to a steward. If someone reported me for a check, I wouldnt mind, im an innocent. Its not just up to the officials in this country to do all the work. Its up to us also to be vigilante within reason and common sense. Anyone carrying a bomb who is about to blow them selves up will not be acting normally, even if they believe in what they are doing. Its human nature. At the very least they will be praying before committing such a weak, selfish and evil act.
So without being excesively paranoid on saturday, show some awareness. If the officials are seroius about checking they will of been issued and trained this week to use hand scanners that scan for tell tale conductive materials on the way into the ground and all staff will be checked out well before gate open times, even there back backgrounds if need be. So let enjoy the game on saturday.
