Security at the Etihad

They need public opinion in arab states to be on their side. Targetting a stadium that is owned by an Abu Dhabi skeikh would only weaken them.
Your trying to attribute rational thought to lunatics. They will twist whatever it is to their own 'message'. In addition, as French bombers are taking off from UAE runways, I respectfully suggest that you think again.

The way i see it is this. Im a S/C holder. Like most of you on here. I sit in the same place every week. I know pretty much every face within a given radius. I imagine all the people around me see the same, as would your selves. When you get to your seat on saturday have a ganders around you for all your familiar faces. If you see someone out of place, a non regular who doesnt appear to be showing any interest in the footy then report that person to a steward. If someone reported me for a check, I wouldnt mind, im an innocent. Its not just up to the officials in this country to do all the work. Its up to us also to be vigilante within reason and common sense. Anyone carrying a bomb who is about to blow them selves up will not be acting normally, even if they believe in what they are doing. Its human nature. At the very least they will be praying before committing such a weak, selfish and evil act.
So without being excesively paranoid on saturday, show some awareness. If the officials are seroius about checking they will of been issued and trained this week to use hand scanners that scan for tell tale conductive materials on the way into the ground and all staff will be checked out well before gate open times, even there back backgrounds if need be. So let enjoy the game on saturday.

Re-read your post, it's exactly what you are being. Also in some parts of the stadium there are different faces every home game, for example the rows behind me in 303 generally have the weekend match-break brigade in there, and many of them have brown skin and could even be Muslims, shock-horror!

I think that would almost certainly not identify any terrorists. It might be a good way of identifying away fans sat in the home end.

What will we do at CL games when most people around me are non regulars with no interest in the football?

I am against banning bags I am taking 2 guys tomorrow who have very complex disabilities who need lots of medication, thickener for drinks, and lots of other stuff, we need bags and we will be taking bags we are going early so they can be checked and expect wheelchairs to be checked

I have literally no idea how you think this idea will make us safer and I'm genuinely curious as to how you define the selection criteria. This is nothing to do with being a cord wearing leftie, its unenforceable and massively dangerous to wider society.

A cleanly shaven middle eastern person in western clothing doesn't look that different to lots of western people. Im genuinely curious as to how brown someone needs to be to be pulled aside in this bizarre experiment?

also lots of Islamist terrorists aren't of Asian appearance. Boko Haram and Al Shabaab have already declared allegiance to Isis so you're going to have check all black people too if it's going to be worth it.

It's a horrible idea that wouldn't protect us one bit. And I'll say it again, we would be safer as whole to cancel matches all together than introduce a system where we start treating anyone that isn't pale skinned as an outsider.

Its need to be looked out with an over arching view and a bit of common sense applied, if any of this made the public 1% safer it is worth it. I think I have defined the "selection" criteria obviously you would do this alongside random searches of Joe Public. I'm happy to be stopped, searched or whatever is required. I have gone to many an away game when I was in my 20s and 30s and been pulled to one side and "patted" down by security because of my "profile" its not made me hate the world I don't understand why that would make anyone hysterical.

Look in an ideal world you should not stop more Asian/middle eastern folk, or welcome job application from minorities ahead of white people, or discriminate on sexuality, treat crime against black person more seriously than a white, have so few black people in positions of authority it goes on and on but we are decades away from where we should be.

It is radicalised British muslims and similar from across Europe that have posed a threat over the last 5 years. I think the risk from Boko Haram or AL Shabaab in the UK mainline is so minimal that you point is pointless.

You saying it is dangerous to wider society suggests its OK to commit acts of terrorism because your bag got searched beggars belief really, this is why we are in this position.

Lets stick to football I guess.

Mate, I think what geoff clip is getting at is not people being searched, but doing so based on colour. I completely agree with him because how would this be implemented; everyone who comes near the ground is lined up against a certified Pantone Reference colour chart? At what colour does the Pantone chart commence from and where about on the spectrum would be considered a safe enough colour not to be checked? Would the security personnel charged with the responsibility be checked prior for colour blindness? Will they be trained to use a spectrophotometer to confirm the 'shade' of the 'suspects'? Also what about the Barry the Bomber types of this world like the film 'The Four Lions'?

One of the bushiest most impressive beards I've seen since first clapping eyes on Yosemite Sam is a fully blue eyed, as Anglo Saxon as they come white Muslim fella who used to run an all night off licence near my Mums. This fella wears the full white traditional Muslim garms with the cap and sandals in all weather conditions, so what would you suggest we do with him who I would assume falls outside your colour profiling idea?

We need to take sensible precautions, not be implementing a form of potential terrorist apartheid in football based on what shade of brown your skin happens to be.

Well I'd definitely search the chap with the beard!!
