Security at the Etihad

Well maybe it does vary depending on which entrance, i just know that they always check on ours, cos mum gets really grumpy about having to open it even though she knows it's coming!!! And she's a pensioner, not a tough looking yob (she's a yob in old clothing maybe?!) so it's not like they only check youngsters.
They should check anyone-everyone with bags young or old ....either do it for all on all occasions or not at all.

The bag checks are more for dangerous flag poles or smuggled in alcohol etc.......they don't give a fuck about bombs anyway.

"What's that in your bag sunshine? "

"It's a bomb mate"

"no alcohol or flag poles?"

"Nope"

"Go ahead, have a nice day"

^ I agree totally.
But in my opinion they DO do that already.
Every home match since the move to the stadium we have our bag checked, i was just pointing out that she's old as a way to explain it's not as if they only check rough looking yobs, they check everyone at our entrance.
But seeing as you said they don't check where you go in much, i was just trying to see why. Nevermind.

They made me remove the plastic bottle cap of my drink last year said wasnt allowed inside the ground with it.. yet inside they sell drinks with bottle caps on..

So security worries me a little at city..

Well...they can't even stop reds with flares or smoke bombs.........That's with individual searches of every fan

i think the general consensus here is that if we're all going to die at city it'll be outside the stadium. People can pull out machine guns and take out hundreds 15 minutes before kick off if they really wanted, no security can stop that, same with blowing themselves up - you can walk all the way up to a turnstile, hell you can even stand next to the team bus as it arrives.. So the point to this is - other than take more care looking around you there's not much we can do, i'm sure as the terror threat for this country has been at "severe" for some time anyway all this has been thought of by the club. It'll just be a bit more up front in their worry at the mo now we've seen again what "people" are capable of :(

Security check anyone carrying a bag anyway don't they?

They certainly used to

Anyway...the Kalashnikov over the shoulder and wires hanging out from under their half and half scarf should be a dead giveaway
Yes and no. They try to, but when there's only 2 people outside the entrance and they're either engaging in small talk with each other or busy with other supporters, it's easy to just walk straight in with no check. They're really half-arsed with it. They don't seem to understand the importance of their job role. Maybe now they do though.

Without wishing to trivialise the question, this is exactly the reaction bringers of terror dream of. People aren't searched and patted down on the tube but that was where the last attack happened, on British soil. They want to destroy our way of life and, if we're not careful, we will let them.
Building bombs and getting hold of automatic weapons with no one in authority finding out about it is incredibly difficult in the UK.
Finally, some perspective is required in this instance. I know the loss of life is large on our day to day measure and is in no way meant to be understated but this would have taken a huge effort of planning and manpower and the terrorists relative success was not great. History tells us that this is almost always the case. Just by way of some perspective, France has over 3000 vehicle related deaths every year. That's less than the terrorists managed after hijacking, crashing 4 planes and bringing down the WTC. There are 1.2M deaths wordwide from vehicle related deaths and 1.7M from AIDS. There were 800000 in 3 months of genocide in Rwanda. That's 8761 every day for 3 months. China's 'Great Leap Forward' saw 30M die from famine in 4 years.
12000 British army dead in ONE HOUR at the Somme. 10000 every day at Auschwitz. 70000 in five Seconds at Hiroshima. (If you translated that into a daily rate it would be over 1.2Billion deaths per day.
As for the Americans, their priorities are a little off. Over 33000 gun related deaths in 2013. Over 500 of these were 'accidental discharge of a firearm'. Accepting that over 60% of these are suicides, that still leaves a huge number more than terrorists have ever killed in the west.
As I said at the start I am not trying to trivialise anything that happened in Paris but the real risks of death are not from terrorism.

I think it would be reasonable to expect the club to carry out a risk assessment. There does seem a higher risk of attending venues with large crowds. You would expect the higher the profile occasion the greater the risk. The terrorists would get greater publicity attacking outside the top PL clubs than most other sporting venues. Given the increased threat, as I fan I would feel safer,if the police were protected and armed, outside the stadium/ in City square like in airports. If there was a shooting incident, there would at least be a security presence to limit the effect.
