Security at the Etihad

how many seats are ticket seats? Those around me are SC holders but closer to the pitch are paper ticket holders I realised

From a terrorist perspective, the packed buses and trams immediately before and after the games would be the logical targets.

Why target a vast area with top notch CCTV and a large security and police presence? Nobody would think twice of some freak getting on a 216 in Ashton with a hold all, timed to to arrive at the Etihad just after full time.

Just keep your eyes open for shady behaviour and luggage on your way to and from the game.

I follow twenty thousand down Joe Mercer Way who qualify!!

I always carry a back pack with a bottle of water, my purse and, in the warm weather, my anorak (I'm a Mancunian it will rain I know it) and a couple of other things like a packet of tissues and my GTN spray (I might keel over when we score 10 and the Rags/Chelsea/Arsenal score 0!!).

Sometimes I get thoroughly searched, sometimes they don't even look at my bag and other times they just pat the bag and say ok!!

However I am assuming and hoping that this weekend we will have proper security, not pretend, bored security. I saw this morning that the spectators at the tennis in London were thoroughly searched with similar machines to the ones in airports.

If anyone went or saw the rugby at the Etihad then that's the level of security that ultimately is possible, people getting searched before they even get close to the stadium (searches and bag checks on Joe Mercer way, the end of the bridge, then next to city at home) the problem you then have is the realistic time needed to get through the queues to be searched to then get close to the stadium there would be queues 2hrs long now for a 90min game its not really proportionate, you will see a lot more police in force this weekend and what should be proper bag checks but a lot of the security work is done via the CCTV and profiling and is as targeted as possible so goes on unseen,

I would of thought the club would of issued a supporters information article on the OS if there is more security and checks as they have to tell them to arrive earlier or something.

May do that later in the week of security is stepped up but can't be too long.

The FA are meeting clubs on Thursday and have said they will be issuing a statement later in the week so expect something Friday

Security at the Etihad has always been shite. I smuggled in a 24 pack of beer a couple of seasons ago. Stupid idea which was probably born out of being too pissed to start with.

Don't think we'll try that again, can see it getting a bit tougher!

They did it at the football for the olympics, everything into a plastic bag while you get searched.

Hope we don't get too carried away with extra security. I'm still a bit pissed off about extra security at airports since 9/11.

When in the family stand and now in 115, get my handbag searched every game which I have never had a problem with.
Seems the MEN warning of pick pockets around the Christmas markets, perhaps time to sack the bag altogether.

A bit naughty I know but I liked the MEN's quote 'Customers were urged to keep a close eye on their phones and bags and watch out for ‘dippers’.' Do they know who are in town on Saturday?

If it helps with safety why would you be pissed? I'd rather wait that extra and and feel safer travelling.

true, but the govt decided to donate the armed forces to the Olympics for free when it turned out g4s were not up to the job. Can't see UK armed forces giving up their weekends to act as free bag searchers and scanner operators for the prem?

How far do you take it. I'd be perfectly safe staying at home instead. But you've got to live your life.
