No question that Aguero is one of the worlds best strikers and a true legend but I think its normal/understanstable to question, whether he is a "Pep" player. He hasnt shown that hunger, confidence, we've all come to love, in many games this season. All you have to do is listen to Pep's comments about how Jesus will press, is aggressive, his work-rate. Aguero is a world class striker but isnt known for any of those things and we just have to admit, there might be a chance (no matter how small) that he might not be in Pep's long term plans. Kun is an a wonderful player, my only question, "is he a Pep player?"

Thought the attacking display, defence from the front, pace and dynamism in the first half last night was a step above what we saw in 2nd half vs Barcelona, impressive though that was. Would you have put Kun in your top 3 or 4 contributors to that result?

If wrong excuse my poor memory, but if you look at the opener it was mostly down to Sergio's doing. Was in the right area to on the mistake and started the move. After the Barca corner, he dispossessed Messi which started the counter which led to the 3rd. He was definitely one of our best players on the night, if he had scored he'd have got MOTM for sure.

Then Pep needs to make him one.

Entirely up to him to look at G. Jesus and learn from him. If he doesn't adapt then he doesn't adapt. But I think he will.

I'm sure somebody could find the quotes but if I'm not mistaken Pep not only thinks he's a 'Pep' player he thought we couldn't be successful without a fit and firing Aguero. Sadly his bans have meant his season has been as stop start as some of his injury hit ones from the past and he's back to square one. Make no mistake though, he's more than good enough to be a 'Pep' player..

Hard to accept for some, since he's a legend here but G.Jesus,Sané & Raz have to be in the XI henceforth..Where that leaves Aguero will depend on how Pep sets us up..3 at the back,2 upfront is the only way he gets into the XI imo..Might have to settle for the bench on current form though.
Pep will rotate anyway, with the 3 games a week cycle kicking in again but Sergio will have to come to terms with not being an automatic starter.

I think the game we saw last night is the way Pep wants every game to pan out, and when I look back at just one goal involving Aguero I see that classic counter against the Islington Arses - Dzeko, Johnson, Aguero. Sergio could have scored any of those first three last night. The only thing I think that does stand in his way ever so slightly is that Sane, Sterling, and Jesus run like the clappers back to defend the middle ground when we have lost the ball.

Be very careful in drawing wrong conclusions with an individual's win rate stats or the more comprehensive points per game stats.

As an example, last season our 2 best players on points per game started (>20starts) were Mangala and Navas and our worst KDB and Sterling.

Based on the last 2 seasons the player with the cumulative worst record for ppg? None other than last years player of the year, Fernandinho.

And to call Aguero " a borderline liability" - FFS.

I appreciate the response and I see what you are saying but I don't think I've drawn any wrong conclusions here. The points you made are with small sample sizes and are easily explainable. 175 games is more than enough to draw accurate conclusions and I'd love for anyone to explain to me how it isn't. Here is another example to further my point..we went 3-1-6 in games w/o KDB, 7-5-4 for silva, and chelsea went 3-7-2 w/o Diego Costa. All three are irreplaceable and the results play out like you might anticipate. Play 175 games with those three and miss 45. You think there's any chance they win/lose at the same ratio? Not a chance. So why is it that when Sergio is out our results are just the same (and even worse since adapting a 4-3-3)? Anyway, it's just an observation anyway. In no way am I saying we're better without Aguero :). It's pretty bizarre though.

This system isn't the optimal system for his game IMO. Will he adapt and flourish? I hope so but I have my reservations. I'm guessing he'll start Saturday and a big game would go a looong way after the start GJ has had.

What do you do with Sergio if Sane/Gabriel Jesus/Sterling is the optimal lineup in the biggest games? Force in Serigo? That's what I mean by a borderline liability.

For what it's worth I'm not writing off Aguero. I'm just pointing out that there might already be better options and that is the tricky part moving forward.

I read enough comments on a daily basis in the media. Why after 200 minutes (that is the total playing time Jesus has covered up until now) many seem to think Aguero is 2nd in the pecking order, or not a Pep-player whatever that may be. Kolarov, to name one, definitely seems to be one because Pep picks him a lot. Yet many don't rate him at all.

Imho I think Aguero is learning and trying to play in another way Pep wants him to. He needs time to adjust and the two red cards incidents to me show he sometimes was frustrated learning his new role. That's why we don't see him score too many goals, but to me his working rate has upped.

Aguero must have known about Jesus and what was coming. He needs serious competition to step up and if Jesus can build on his performances so far, the competition has clearly arrived. If Aguero can't step up I've no doubt we will see him playing football somewhere else very soon. I he does it's perfect for us because we get to see an even better version of Aguero in Aguero himself.

Aguero needs to put in the effort off the ball Jesus shows. But he didn't start last night because on debut, Jesus got two assists and worked his socks off. He couldn't be dropped. It was the right call. Equally, he can't be dropped after his performance last night. Aguero will have to wait his turn and impress when he gets it. This is great for our squad. Kompany's return and even Delph's return to fitness will force competition and force all to step up. I think we saw that last night with an excellent defensive performance. Stones, Kolarov and Otamendi all know that if they make a mistake now Kompany is in and one of them is out. Encourages a better performance.
