That is one thing, continuing to play them when they are past-it is something else altogether

I'm not saying he is past it, but it would be remiss not to look at options
We have an option in Jesus. And after 3 years, when Aguero leaves, we would have more options from academy. Unal would be good.

therein lies the problem.... Aguero will always be driven by scoring, it's why his assists are poor for such a world class player, any sight of goal and he will pull the trigger. Unfortunately, it goes against peps philosophy of 'team'... I think everyone is hoping kun can adapt but what does seem evident is how he restricts the two wide players compared to GJ..... Hopefully he will get up to speed but there were 3/4 occasions last night where sane and sterling had nothing in the box when trying to penetrate, they actually had to check runs which upset how fluid we were....

We can adapt for kun but having had a taste of how we could potentially play, I feel he may be suited more to the CL!

I don't agree that he's incapable of providing goals as well - he just stopped doing it last season.

Looking at the league:

11/12 - 10 assists in 34 games.

13/14 - 10 in 23 games.

14/15 - 8 in 33 games.

15/16 - 2 in 30 games.

16/17 - 1 in 19 games.

In 2015 Pellegrini switched to 4231 and Aguero became our sole source of goals. That's the problem here, IMO - he has an "if I don't score no one else will" mentality which has been earned, after all, he did score nearly 40% of our goals in the last 2 seasons under Pellegrini - which is the same kind of reliance Swansea have on Gylfi Sigurdsson.

I think in order for us to get a great Aguero back, which is now absolutely vital with Jesus' injury, he just needs to get back some belief that his teammates can and will score as well - part of the reason I was so keen to see him with Jesus.

First things first though, he needs to just get some goals. Get a hattrick somewhere, against Huddersfield, Stoke, Sunderland whoever - at the moment his #1 problem is he's low on confidence and trying too hard to score. You can see the hesitation in his game and it means he's neither being selfish and scoring, nor being selfless and being a team player.

I'm sure no one is disputing that we need to score goals to win games and that sterling and sane can be wasteful in that area at times, but it seems you still missed the point that was made in the post you replied to. Goal threat is all well and good and aguero does provide that but if it comes at the expense of team fluidity and balance, that's where the problem comes in. I'm sure when pep bought Ibra for barca, he had it with the intention of someone to provide a goal threat and focal point, which to his credit Ibra did provide that, but he was still sold the following season once it became clear that the team fluidity suffered as a result of that. I'm guessing Pep is of the thinking that the team with the three of sane, jesus and raheem helps create the most number of chances and concede the least due to the work they do off the ball.

I think pep would been fine with aguero not being as good as the other three in pressing if he was consistently creating chances for him team-mates but when you see that jesus has contributed more assists than him in just three games than he has the whole season, then you start to understand why he's been dropped. It's also a reason why sterling and sane will rarely be dropped as although they can be wasteful at times, it was still them that created the two chances(with a bit of luck in sane's case)' that ultimately won the game yesterday. In fact in the 3 games that the trio played together since jesus' arrival, the team scored 9 goals and all three were involved in them one way or the other. This is not to say aguero doesn't have a role to play in the team as yesterday proved with his movement that led to the goal. But when fit sane, jesus and raheem provide the best balance for the team going forward meaning that while there may be chances that will be missed at times, the quality and quantity of those chances are more consistent and increased in comparison to when its with aguero in the team as he tends to be more single-minded in his approach to goalscoring which is a sacrifice pep is willing to make.

I didn't miss the bit about fluidity...i said he was right on that....

The OP did say it was Ok for them to miss chances (which it is as long as its ok for Aguero to miss chances as well).....I said that Sergio has been criticised for being off form and missing chances (which is correct.....he has) but I wondered why no one was mentioning the chances missed by the 3 young lads and wondered about the strange phenomenon that is present on this board (and i guess other fan forums as well) that as soon as someone new comes into the team that there is a sudden urge to dispense with the player that may be seen as "in the way" or at least not give them the same leeway. Sergio helped win us that game last night. He started off poorly in the first half but grew into the game....his touch (which was atrocious int he first half, became better and as a result so did his link up play.......he got the goal by getting across the front of the defender (something Jesus could learn from as that is where his missed chances have come from at the moment)

Again its noticeable that none, including you is giving any thought to the possibility that Jesus Sergio and one other (probably Sane) could provide an even more effective attacking threesome.....you would still have the pressing from the two young lads and its not like Sergio doesn't press...(it was noticeable last night that out of all the team it was only Raheem that pressed anywhere near as effectively....Jesus didn't int he 15 mins he was on the pitch and Sane was as guilty as aguero at standing off and dropping too deep....(now this could be due to the way bournmouth played as well as the game yesterday was a lot more like the second half of the swansea game where they pressed us much higher up the pitch and that negated our pressing high. It was also noticeable that as the game went on sergio started to link with Sane better esp making a number of passes to him (intact he did it int he first half on the edge of the area when I think he should have shot ...he did the reverse in the second had as well when he should have passed but hit the defender with his shot (but if you watch he incident again he thinks about passing but i think the gap closes so he choses to shoot.

Noone has even seen evidence of what Kun could do with Jesus and one of the others on the pitch....the thought of them linking up to me is about as good as it gets and in a game where we are against higher quality opposition that one chance you need to take could be vital. Unfortunately we aren't going to get to see the possibility of both of them on the pitch until at least April with GJ's injury so all of this is a mute point now...unless Sergio is injured or banned then he is now no.1 striker again for the time being. Its still strange to me (and we go back to this unusual phenomenon that does occur on here) that no one is excited about he possibility of the two playing together or at least it being given a try..........I just don't get that...if t doesn't work fine (but at least give it a go surely?)

when he was waiting to come on last night he looked really big and out of shape..

personally i think he knows its his last season and he has lost interest..
