Sergio Aguero - 2016/17 performances

I don't think it's a physical thing with Aguero, it's in his head. He's an assassin, totally switched off until the chance comes then clinical. The problem is Pep is demanding he can't be switched off any more. He has to be engaged the whole game. It seems a small thing but you play the way you play and he has never been asked to think/work like this before. It's well known he does nothing in training, this must all seem a little strange to him.

Aspects of what you are saying are correct. However I doubt he does " nothing," in training despite what frank lampard might say. Needs to get fitter And keep the fitness levels end of. He will in time get PEPs way, he is an intelligent footballer.

Just needs to find the back of the net and the goals will start flowing again. Looked good yesterday. I think with Jesus in the side he will get more support as the chemistry between him and sterling I suspect wasn't helping.

Watching Aguero over the years, there have been two different players imo, due to fitness.

The fully fit Aguero, was probably the best striker the Prem has ever seen. The half fit Aguero was a dangerous cf, & one of the best, but stoppable.

The biggest difference between the two, was a yard of pace.

Sadly, I think that yard of pace has now gone. Having Sane upfront alongside Serge & Sterling, emphasised that from where I'm sat. There was a big difference in Sterling or Sane chasing a through ball, compared to Aguero. And Aguero was pushing, flat out. All credit to him, he ran his balls off.

But that extra yard, was the difference between him getting in front of the defender & being at the side of him.

But the technique & strength is still there.

I think Aguero needs to reinvent himself to compensate for that yard of pace, which will involve passing more & playing more one twos etc. I think he can do it. But I think he has to, or he will lose his first choice position.
I notice it too. Its both his flat out sprint speed and his acceleration over the first five yards. You saw it a number of times yesterday when he was chasing a through ball but also when he was trying to go past defenders. He used to be able to create sufficient space to get his shot away. Thats why he was so lethal. Maybe he is carrying a knock or maybe you are right. I don't know wether he will be able to adapt to Pep yet - I guess we will find out over the remainder of the season.

Hopefully. Training was well known before Lampard.

Right now we need Sergio so much.
Don't know how Pep is talking to Sergio. But I think he has to give him maximum support.
Ask Sergio what would be perfect for him and do it. He needs some freedom to feel good I guess.
Seems the lad isn't happy and we have to try anything to cheer him up.

I can't wait for Sergio to beat the all-time record goal-scoring for Man City. He'll get there, hopefully this season, I am sure.

And I'm so looking forward to seeing all about it on the BBC News headlines, and for the 5 minute film about Eric Brook and Sergio himself being shown as the entire sports news.

He won't be getting another 20 odd goals this season the rate he's scoring at.

He looked sharp again at beginning of season I thought but has gone back to looking a yard short of pace If he's not banging tbe goals in he doesn't warrant a starting place. I thought his decision siin making vs Spurs was shocking!!

Watched his performance vs Spurs 13/14 & compared it to Saturday's and can't really tell if he's lost his yard of pace or he is(looks) overweight or both.
Hope his career doesn't take a Torres-esque route.

I rewatched the game also.
From my seat in the ground I thought similar, that he's looking a little on the slide and thought he struggled.
However rewatching the game today, I thought his desire and burst of speed were there. There were a few occassions where he bust in front of his man.
Don't get me wrong, there were occassions where his speed of thought or choice of pass were a little off, but I thought in the main his game was good.
There was on point where he gave their centre half metres of head start and beat him to the ball by two foot, the ball just held up otherwise he was clean through from nothing but his speed and speed of thought.

Pep has him playing a totally different game and he's adapting.
I do believe he's in his later years of his City career, but there's some excellent games left in him yet.
