Sergio Aguero - 2017/18 performances

There have been some underlying stats that have been worrying about him these past couple of months. Before his two goals against bournemouth last week, the last time he scored from open play in the league was at home against crystal palace back in september. Before the accident he had, he'd scored (edit 6) goals all from open play and assisted 3 in roughly 5 games. In the 10 games since that accident, 4 of his 6 goals have been from penalty and he's only assisted 1 more against bournemouth last week. Now those penalties still need to be scored and some of them have been under high pressure but 2 goals from from open play in 10 games is very worrying for a team with the quality and attacking talent of this city side. If he was contributing a lot to other areas like chance creating and link-up play like jesus often does it could be forgiven but he's also struggling on that side at the moment. The moment right after the penalty miss where the team was on the break he picked the wrong option and the wrong time for that break where it would've been 4 on three and sane drew two of newcastle's players to him. It's little things like that which can prove crucial throughout the season

Imo the main difference between the team now and at the beginning of the season when they were winning comfortably has been that both strikers seemed to have gone off form at the same as the chances are still being created. Hopefully he steps up big time in the second half of the season especially with jesus injury and can score goals when the team doesn't win a penalty.

Good post.

A couple of points: 1) This is the Aguero thread not the Sane thread 2) I don't get why posters are getting upset about people making critical comments about Aguero's performance in the Aguero performance thread. That's the point of the thread. It's not an agenda, it's an opinion.

I tel you why.....cause its sadly predictable and has started to build up over the last couple of games with certina posters just waiting the chance/opporutnity/occasion where the team doesn't win to have a go.....a couple of people before todays game were saying that if aguero started he needed to score/better play well etc...they were just waiting for a poor tema performance to target him for crotisms while ignoring the likes of GJ And Sane (who have both been well below the level of Aguero recently (the same posters don't comment on others bad performances for months) ....Aguero even provided a very classy assist for sterling the other week but again some posters ignore that and just use a bad team performance to target him.....

there are others even suggesting that it is Aguero (or someone linked to him) that is leaking them news to the twitter guy that keeps getting things right.....

This sort of same shit happens EVERY time we approach a transfer window......without fail and as i said at the start its sadly predictable.

We all wish we were watching the same happy Sergio as we were watching in the first couple of months of the season, but we're not. You don't have to have an agenda to spot that. Any doubts - see Callum Ramsey's post above - which supports the view with stats. But whatever your view is, the whole point of this thread is to discuss his performance, and to be able do that without being accused of having an agenda, or being accused of singling him out as the only one being criticised. Otherwise it's not much of a forum.

We were lacking up front today. It didn't feel like we had one of the premier league's best ever strikers on the pitch before or after Jesus went off. I didn't feel we had that player leading the line that Keg, Silva, Sterling could look to to play 1/2s off or who would put away a chance it they could just create it.

He's running out of time IMO. I want to believe he can get this right and hit another level, doing what Pep wants and scoring 35+ goals a season, nothing would make me happier than Aguero becoming another key piece in this side... but I also think that a world class striker is the one thing we're missing. We've not got a Messi or Lewandowski putting away every chance that the ridiculously talented side can create and it almost cost us vs. Newcastle and it will cost us in the latter end of the CL.

Aguero has been that in the past, Jesus could be that in the future, neither is that currently and if this continues through to July I doubt Pep will give him a third season to click with the system.

I don’t want to sound like I’m arse licking you here, but you say everything I normally want to say in a post, but I can never word it properly. You’re pretty much spot on about aguero.

Im not saying he is the same....but neither are the rest of the forwards....NONE of them besides sterling are performing and GJ and Sane have been markedly worse...Sane was the worst player on the pitch today by a stretch and GJ offered nothing before he was injured either.....

When people are setting it up BEFORE a game/BEFORE a season then there is an agenda by some and its been building ever since Pep arrived. (I'm not blaming Pep btw).....a lot pf people said Sergio would never be able to adapt to the way Pep wanted him to play......citing his lack of link play/ability to provide for others and his work rate.....Sergio has proved them all hugely wrong....still up there scoring goals, but has also hugely added to his game in other aspects (Pep has a lot of praise for this as well).....People don't like this as well as being eager to see shiny new toes come into the club....

Still came closest to scoring

Sane and GJ playing much worse at present and not just today but for the past couple of months.

Saying "well Jesus isn't lighting it up either" tells you all you need to know about Sergio's form recently. Putting aside his immense potential, Jesus is also a 20 year old kid who hasn't even been in Europe a full year and has been playing football without a rest period besides his injury for eighteen months now. Sergio is supposed to be an elite striker in the prime of his career in a team generating chances at a historic rate. He should be way better than Jesus. That he isn't is exactly the problem.

For whatever reason Kun does not seem the player he was in his prime-it just happens age +injuries.
He is certainly missing Merlin. They have a special connection and a telepathy almost. But aside from that, he isnt the same over recent weeks. Tired perhaps? He just needs a game where he scores a bagful to kick him on as a striker, Bristol City may be that game
