Sergio Aguero - 2017/18 performances

Scored 1 would have got a second if a Watford player hadn't scored for him. Should have had a pen and mostly in atrocious conditions. Some fans (?) on this thread need to understand the difference between a real game and their fantasies.

If we are going to starve him of the ball, as in the first half especially, what chance has he. Crying out for balls over the top, god forbid we ever do that.

Definitely lost a yard but still has the hunger to score goals , an indispensable player who we shouldnt even consider selling , never gives an ounce of trouble and gives 100% , he may not be happy when not picked or substituted , because he wants to play every game and every minute , he's got a brilliant attitude to our club and the team ethic .

Thought he had a good game tonight, consistently linked up play, got his goal and forced the own goal through his positioning (and KdB's excellent cross of course). Have to say I'm bewildered by the narrative that's building in some quarters which seemingly wants him out of the club. Let's not forget G.Jesus hadn't scored for several weeks before his injury
I’ve been as critical as Aguero as anyone recently but I thought his movement was excellent tonight, particularly in the first half when I get a better view of it. There were a couple of occasions where he’d got space between the centre-backs but wasn’t played in. One of those was from Silva, who took far too many touches before releasing the ball, when it was too late.

However it can’t be denied that his ability to take his chances has plummeted recently. He hit his best chance straight at Gomes, which he’s been doing quite a lot with his chances.

This is the problem everyone is expecting sergio to score an hatrick every game doesn't work like, he's having to do more now like dropping deep.

He also missed a header (skewing well wide) that he put in just a few games ago and, as I said elsewhere, would have put in blindfolded with both legs tied together a few years ago. It’s less a drop off in quality (though, that may also be there) and more an increased volatility of performance level, to use an economic term. He is more inconsistent as of late, which is difficult for us to accept as we are playing at such a high level otherwise.

I think he is and always will be one of the best players ever to put on a sky blue shirt but, as my coach (who had a first in physics, oddly enough—probably why we got on so well) once told me after my brief return to playing at uni after a long term knee injury, “time and entropy waits for no one”. He was a cheery chap.

I'm a tremendous fan of Aguero, and admitting he's not the player he once was (as unfortunate as that is) doesn't make that any less true

I think you’ll find most of us know the difference and also do not devolve to “I’m better than you” arguments to make our point.

Unless, of course, you’ve decided to question my, @MarsLlama, @Prestwich_Blue, @cjn, @Blue Smarties, @gomer27, and @domalino ’s allegiances.

I think Aguero himself would be the first to admit that he hasn’t been anywhere near as clinical as he should be this season. When you look at Kane, you just feel like he’ll score every times he gets a chance. I don’t feel like that with Aguero anymore. I admire the ferocity with which some people will defend Aguero but I don’t think there’s anything wrong with admitting that he’s not been great lately. Aguero at his best would’ve had at least three today, the chance De Bruyne made for him just before half time is the best example I can think of that show s how low in confidence he is.
