Sergio Aguero - 2019/20 Performances

What's unbelievable? He's been underwhelming in the big games so far, that needs to change, we need him, his experience, class, ability to score decisive goals. Sergio has been fine against the smaller teams and has really struggled against the better ones, there's no denying.

Mate, before today he's played the grand total of 318 minutes in the league against teams currently in the top 6. He has scored 3 times in the 318 minutes for a strike rate of a goal every 106 minutes. That's the same as his long-term premier league strike rate which just happens to be the best in PL history.

Don't knock goals against Sheff United - they have the 2nd best defensive record in the league.

He was close today with the Lloris save on to the post and IMO he should have taken the penalty. It's been a long time since he missed one in the league - October 2016 (although I get it he was fortunate against WHU with the retaken one).

I couldn't see the game but regardless of what happened it's disappointing to see even a few posters seriously doubting Aguero after today's game. I refuse to believe he could have been that bad.

We have two wonderful strikers in Aguero and Jesus, past and future, both present. We should be singing their praises all the time, day after day. I hope some of you can realise how lucky we are to have these two. It's tough but sometimes you need to look past the basic stats. For example I thought Aguero was great against United despite not scoring.

It's not been the best of seasons for us obviously, but that doesn't take away from these two superstars. Remember we've had worse seasons than this with Aguero in the team and look how he's triumphed over the Guardiola tenure. Don't downplay them now knowing how easily it could and will turn around in the future.

That's correct, he did. And had it been another one of our strikers I suspect you would've been the first one to note that.
1 was a great save, gabby misses a good chance when he came on

However the point in here was a poster who comes straight in here post match and slags off sergios record, trying to belittle it,what blue does that?

Thanks for this post, mate.

I think it's undeniable that this season Sergio has been scoring against the poor/average teams, unlike last season where he contributed 35% of his goals against top 6 teams, 8 against Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Man U, half of them with exceptional finishes.

This season Sergio has scored 80 % of his goals against teams placed 13th-20th in the table. It's important to score against such teams but Sergio is most famous for his big games goals and performances and this season he isn't at the same level.

If Sterling is injured Sergio is likely to start against Real away. We need a big performance there.

That said, I struggle to remember the last time Sergio had a great performance against a top team at their ground. Can you refresh my memory? I'm worried he has been performing against top teams only at the Etihad the last 2 years. Maybe I'm wrong and you can remind me of a great game he had away from home against a top team, not Sheff U (where the goal was mostly Kevin anyway).

One of the 'problems' we'll always have with a predator such as Aguero is that he is so focussed on scoring himself that he often fails to see the bigger picture in and around the box and the players around him. There have been many occasions in recent weeks when he's chosen to take the ball into traffic or shoot when we've created the free man out wide or there is a man better placed. Not a criticism of him, that's simply his style of play and he's not going to change now.
