Sergio Aguero leaves City after 10 years

Players come, players go...
They all leave a mark. A few leave a scar.
Some are quickly forgotten. More linger a little longer in the memory.
Then there are players like Kun Aguero. Fully deserving the legend they have created.

We should be grateful that we lived to see one of the world's great footballers at the peak of his powers, playing and breaking records in a Manchester City shirt.

He's unquestionably been a talisman. Could turn up and look a class above everyone. Even when quiet, we all knew he could score out of nothing, and when we're up against it.

Where do we go from there? The only answer that makes any sense to me is that Pep organises things so De Bruyne can take that mantle. Not as a striker, but maybe in a team that can accomodate his weaknesses and off days and leave him more opportunities to win games.

I'll never forget the way Kun turned it up after his run in with Pep. That sustained response - running away with the league, carrying the team many times over - was his greatest achievement IMHO. Personally, I think the way he ran and fought, at that stage in his career, with that physique and injury history, must have taken a lot out of him.

One of the greatest. And he gave it all to us.

Here it is, perfectly summed up better than I ever could.

I'm sad but also very proud and pleased for him. When he signed for the club he'd have been dreaming of it working out the way it has for him. It's been a Roy of the Rovers tale, or rather a Serg and the City tale!

As each of the legends has retired in recent years it's been great to reflect on what made them special. What I especially love about Sergio is the fear he inspires in opponents.

I'll miss watching him, it's been am absolute privilege.
David takes up positions half way between the two nearest opponents - they hesitate before one decides to step in, but by that time David's off and away. Sergio is the same in the box - getting in between the two CBs - they look at each other but by that point Sergio's away and scoring. Immortal to me - a 60 year old blue.

I’ve been fearing this day since the minute he made his debut against Swansea all them years ago. I know it’s probably been said a million times over but you really could tell from his very first touch of the ball that he was special. The final piece of the jigsaw. He was the one.

I didn’t think he’d stick around because the City I grew up supporting weren’t meant to have a player this good. He was destined to be a galactico or play alongside Messi at Barca. In the end I was wrong. He was meant to be a blue. The greatest player we’ve ever had. The player that made all of our wildest dreams come true.

All my school mates are reds. Every single one of them. Love them to bits but I don’t know how I got so unlucky. My school year was fairly 50/50 in terms of blues and reds but my form class was all reds bar me. They’re still my best mates to this day 10 years later and I don’t mind it as much anymore (obviously down to our success and them being shite, oh how sweet it is). My clearest memory of that famous day in 2012 is when the clock hit 90 and I had the realisation that I was gonna have to face those cunts at school the next day and that I was probably in for the worst day of my life. Didn’t move an inch when Dzeko scored because this is City we were talking about. This is how we did things. This is how we’d always done things. My dad and my grandad had always made sure I knew that. I’d already accepted defeat when Dzeko scored. And then that moment. The greatest moment of my life by a million miles.

Thank you for everything Sergio. My favourite ever player and the greatest goal scorer this league has ever seen. Thank you for changing our club and changing my life. I know it would’ve been a whole lot shitter without you. We might sign Haaland and he could end up staying his whole career and breaking all of Aguero’s records. But Aguero will always be the one that has my heart. He’ll always be the one that started the dynasty.

Of course I’m not trying to undervalue the roles Vinny, Dave, Yaya, Ferna, Zaba etc played. They’re all gods amongst us mere mortals. But Aguero was the final piece. He was the one that had the bollocks and the ability in the biggest of big moments to get the job done. And then he carried on doing it for a decade.

Adios, King Kun.

He’s that last link to back then. We were so fortunate he joined us at the age he did. End of an era.

This makes me sad. In a way I did not feel as much with Silva and Company. Feel hollow in my stomach, almost like losing a loved one.

Strange - the latter (and several other players) seemed more "loveable" to me when they were here.

Whereas Aguero was this almost distant, godlike figure. Who would get linked to Madrid every year by the usual media twats. But would never go, and year after year be quietly fantastic.

You don't know what you've got until it is gone.
I think most of us knew what we'd got the day he stepped off the bench against Swansea in one word special, but boy just how special has he been.

Probably the truest and best post I've read. Wish I'd written it.
