Sergio Aguero

Not being a dick but its impossible to "be close to doing your ACL". You either do it or you don't.

It happens so quickly and without any control, you just can't 'nearly' do it.

Speaking from doing both my ACL's.

Fair comment. Think he was relieved he stopped. He feared the worst. You're right you either do it or don't. Apologies

As I said not trying to be a pedantic dick, just clarifying for those who might be worried.

Maybe he felt his knee jar and it freaked him out enough. Sometimes you can jar it and physically feel the ACL kick in and protect the knee, which hurts a fair bit for a few minutes.

Of course you can come close to doing your ligaments...
I injured my medial ligament and the physio said mine was a grade 2 tear, that means it was torn but only held together by a few fibres, grade 1 is a full tear when the ligament completely snaps into two and grade 3 meant only a few fibres had torn in the ligament....

There are six types of ligament damage.

1. Part of the ligament is torn while the rest is undamaged
2. Part is torn away without bone
3. Part is torn away with bone
4. Complete separation of ends
5. Complete detachment from bone
6. Complete detachment of fragment of bone attached to ligament

With number 1 there can be a very minor injury that won't take long (or as long since ligament injuries aren't quick healing at all) to heal.

Of course, but that isn't 'doing' your ACL unless I read the post wrong. Doing your ACL means doing it completely.

Even the slightest tear to a ligament degrades the strength of it completely, and considering word is that he has a minor injury that isn't a big deal, I would rule out ligament damage completely.

He would need to be in a full leg brace to keep the leg completely still and straight for the ligament to heal. He isn't. Splitting hairs here but that was my original point.

Sergio has strained knee ligaments. He has been lucky not to tear them. He could be fit for Newcastle. Suspect he won't be risked though due to lack of training.
Believe me this is very good news. He stopped training just in time when he knew he had a problem.
A new injury?

I think this is good news. I'd rather he have a new injury which will heal properly than a chronic knee condition.

I was beginning to fear that we could be without him for some considerable time. If he's out until September/October that's great If he can get back to his best. A fit Aguero in this team, and a fit Kompany means we will have a great chance of winning the title.

Very impressed with the quality of all the new signings. Each one is a step up on what we had.

The club should release information about their injured players, because in the absence of facts you get speculation.

-- Sat Aug 03, 2013 10:14 am --

The information from Bluewhit was that it was strained ligaments which is less serious than any of the categories you have listed which are all partial or complete tears.

If he did the damage whilst in South Africa, two or three weeks ago, and it's a strain which is micro-tears to the ligaments, then he should be about ready to step up training now, and start playing. If you don't see him soon, then there's something else going on.

We are fortunate that this year we don't have to rush him back we have Negredo, Dzeko and Jovetic to cover and from what I have seen of them in pre season they will cope admirably in the prem league. Only bring Sergio back when he is 100% too valuable to risk. If that means he doesn't start till October so be it.

Absolutely agree. I think we have got a very good squad that appear to want to fight for their place. The team seems to be more balanced so we aren't just relying on one player to change games any more.
