Sevilla away sold out!

That's true, and I agree with you.

In my case though, I'm 22, I started going to every away game I could when I was 18 - despite having a season ticket since '98 I was about 5/6,000 points off the selling out criteria for pretty much every game because of when I was born (It's unrealistic to expect anyone under 18 to be able to attend 10+ away matches a season when you have a dad like mine who could only make it to the odd one every now and again). If you don't offer people the chance to climb the ladder - they won't and we'd end up with 3,000 pensioners going to all the away games in 20 years, then once they've all popped their clogs, we lose the away cultures and infrastructures and end up with poor travelling support. I'm in a position now where I'd get tickets to every game other than United away and this one, although I wasn't going to this one regardless.

I think we need to keep the supporters clubs, but we should make it stricter because there are ways around it.

i get what you are saying mate, but someone who has put the hard yards in over the years to get to 13,000 pts shouldn't be usurped by someone who hasn't.
but i understand there is a balance to be struck so as to not alienate someone like yourself

Is this correct about Thompsons, because there itinerary clearly states you have to get a ticket in your own right or you will be offered 2 options, a full refund or you can travel without a ticket for the match.

It will be happening. There is not a chance that Thompson will schedule planes for this trip and not fill it. Thompson will have a look at all their bookings and work with the club to see how many qualified in the release information. The club might have said to them look you can have a guaranteed number for 2 flights and they have to be sold by the points criteria but we will allow leeway if they are close enough to the bottom points. Hence why people with 11,500 points were going.

This has definitely happened in the past.

First of all i have a ticket. I do not thought brag about abusing the system thru supporters clubs.
I'm not bragging. I'm making the point that me at 17 wouldn't have stood a chance of watching my team playing away from home because I would have been too far behind the older people who've been able to go to the games for a longer time then me.

How would you recommend someone who's just turned 18, who's City mad should go about trying to watch City play away? And don't just say 'do the Sunderland's away in the cup' because most of them will be doing and still not getting anywhere near the loyalty points needed.

You would have climbed up the ladder. Fans older than you stop going when Mortgages come in etc, then after a period they start going again. Good mate of mine (who is on here) his 3 kids have climed well up the points ladder

That's the hard pill to swallow, unfortunately.

I've only got my back up because people blame the supporters clubs unfairly in my view - of course there are the odd people who flout the rules, but it won't be as many as a lot on hear want people to think.

It's the clubs fault, all of this, because money means more to them than loyalty. If I won the lottery tomorrow I'd bet I could go to every game home and away and never have to mention loyalty points!

Whilst I agree with the sentiment this 'hard yards' shite is bollocks

You mean 'hard yards' since the points system has come into play

I know lads including myself who went home and away for years during the 80s/90s who are on nowhere near as many points as some on here due to dropping their ST for a few years when we moved to COMS for various reasons (Family etc etc)

A lot of these boys are hardcore support and cannot be dismissed

Like the earlier person mentioned...if you're determined and resourceful enough you can get a ticket for any game

Some just like it handed to them on a plate

Just out of curiosity what do you think of this scenario then: I applied for every away ticket the first season I was in the supporters club and got 5 through them - I went to another 4 or 5 using my own points for games that didn't sell out as quick. The next season, the guy who organised the club said 'flippin heck, you really want to go to all the games don't you', so the next season, after applying for every away game I went to about 17 including cup games but missed out on the bigs ones. The season after that I did the same and only missed one game (midweek QPR away) because I was ill on the morning of the game and wouldn't have made it to the train station, never mind London without a bog! By the fourth season, I now have enough points to get to pretty much every game bar United and Liverpool, I still apply for the odd ticket, but the majority I just buy myself.

Throughout all this time I've had to pay adult prices for EVERY game, because you can't register as being under 21 on the OSC. I've payed for a platinum season ticket as well to double the number of points I got which for someone who worked part time in a call center was very expensive.

In my opinion I've paid well over what I should have for the privilege to catch up to the older generation - there are loads of people who did the same as me and we all would have had no chance if it wasn't for the supporters clubs. You're view is obviously different, but I don't see why you're as bothered at supporters clubs as say corporates who aren't even City fans!

You, for a start.

This was for the Spurs game.

Well you're a mod on here aren't you - did I break any of the CoC rules?

If I did ban me. If I didn't don't insinuate that I'm doing something wrong/immoral when you work for the website that enables me to do it.

The cheek of it, I say!

Have to say excellent post and highlights what it takes monetary and dedication to go to all the games and climb up the loyalty points ladder.

Though you story does emphasis where the points system should be changed to a rolling 5 year time span.

Not that I'm bothered either way but wouldn't you have just gone to the games you qualified for and have had to miss the games you didn't building your loyalty points up when you got the tickets yourself? What difference does the supporters club make here?
