Sevilla (H) | Post Match Thread

Some of you lot way over analyse games like this. Surely you’ve seen enough football to know that performances like this almost always happen in dead rubber games?

Zero atmosphere, reduced intensity, various changes, several youth players etc. It’s all a recipe for what you saw last night. There’s no avoiding it and you should expect to see it going into the game.

Only once this season unfortunately. I have Long Covid and difficulty walking at present. They’ve just (2weeks ago) discovered that I have a wedge fracture T10 vertebrae and (doc’s words) very, very bad arthritis in my hips especially right one. Just so you realise I’m not feeling sorry for myself … when the doctor had finished explaining, with illustrations, about my back I thanked him and he said ‘that’s the first time a patient has thanked me for telling them they’ve got a broken back’!!! I was just glad I’d got a full diagnosis. *lol*
Sorry, you didn’t ask for my medical history. :-)
I will get back by hook or by crook but it could be a while!!
Arthritis in the hip is a real bugger, you have my utmost sympathy. I recently had an injection in my left hip….marvellous relief, just my lower back to sort now!

Quite a contrast between two halves. Not the first time this season. Hopefully we keep the “ great for 90 minutes” for the second part of the season.

Thank you. I hope they get it sorted out for you soon. Keep smiling and supporting the Best Team in the Land and all the World. They keep us going. :-)

yes i think we'll come back to the field once Silva, KDB and Gundo depart but im sure there are plans underway for that. other players bar Foden / Haaland seem to be replaceable more easily
Foden and Palmer in the new midfield. Plus? Philipps? Doyle?

Enjoyed that. Pep was tinkering and trying stuff out for sure. Great to see Lewis getting a chance and taking it. Alvarez goal was excellent. Weird thing with Kev - looks essential at the moment but when he's been gone for periods in the recent past we've more than coped. Who is his heir?
Foden.

Only watched first half , new we would be better in the second half , seen julians goal , nice one , glad he had a good second half , needed kev to find him looks like

Gomez didn't need a bollocking from Pep. He got it big time from Diaz, there and then. I love having that guy on the pitch. Doesn't matter who's captain. He's always, in his mind, captain.
Gomez is young, but it was poor defending. Really.

First and foremost I think that the win last night was an outstanding result. Admittedly Sevilla are a poor team at the moment, but they clearly came to do a job, which unfortunately for them, they couldn’t finish.

We we’re poor in the first half and defending the corner which resulted in a goal for Sevilla was woeful. I also don’t like Pep playing the inverted fullback system as it leaves us open to teams who have reasonably fast wide players. It was disastrous at Newcastle when Saint Maximin and Almiron had free runs out wide and made our fullbacks look very poor. Same happened last night particularly down our left side.

Second half was really and full credit to all the players. Fantastic for Rico to score. He looked so confident and deserves all the praise he is receiving. I was particularly pleased for Alvarez and despite those negative comments in the pre match thread, I think that given time, he will turn out to be a top player for us. His work rate is excellent too.

Phil was outstanding and played well within himself. Ruben was a great leader at the back and as for Kev and Bernardo, no words can describe how much they bring to this team.

Only moan is for lack of atmosphere inside the ground.
