We’re looking for a city break for our honeymoon later in the summer and fancy somewhere new.

The missus wants sun, I want to visit a decent stadium. Flights to Seville and hotels are a decent price.

Any bluemooners got experience of the city or any advice?

Seems as good a place as any for a hanging :)

Went out with a girl who worked there in the late 90’s and stayed there with her for about three weeks.

Had a great time, but it would be long way down my list of places to visit in Italy.

Quite industrial and not very friendly were a couple of enduring memories. Went back in 2019, along with Florence, Bologna and Naples and felt it was the least likeable, interesting place of the four.

The Duomo is incredible, and there’s plenty of decent places to eat, but I wouldn’t recommend if you could go to (for example) Seville, Porto or Munich for the same money.

Love Milan but still nowhere near my favourite in Italy.
Brescia,Bologna,Florence and Vicenza are beautiful places to visit.
I know it is not for everyone but I love Venice.

Just my opinion, but I found Milan a bit meh.

San Siro was a highlight, but outside of shopping and a few sights there's really not much to do. From my experience the weather is not great in Milan either. Caveat I was only there once about 5 years ago.

For somewhere sunny + a good stadium experience, maybe Lisbon, Porto, Sevilla, or elsewhere in Iberia? I can't speak for the stadiums but the cities are worth it. Or maybe Turkey?

I went a few years back.

It’s not the beautiful scenic historic Italy you get in other places - it’s quite concrete and industrial - but it’s got some nice bars, restaurants and loads of shops if you’re into that kind of thing.

I went on a tour of the San Siro too. It’s an enormous shithole. Had to literally climb over piles of smashed concrete to get there from the metro station.

Been on a lot of city breaks over the last few years and Milan is actually near the bottom of the list.
As somebody has already said, the Duomo is incredible. The second best thing we saw was the Starbucks Roastery (only three of the in the world - kind of like a coffee version of Charlie and the Chocolate factory). But outside of that, we were struggling.

I'd suggest Seville or Valencia as great places to visit with loads to see, although Seville may be too hot in the summer.

When I went (a long time ago) it was possible to walk on the Duomo roof, which was worth doing.

Other than that, the castle is pretty good to visit, and da Vinci's Last Supper is painted on a church wall. Need to prebook tickets for that, as far as I know - back then, you didn't but the doorman was an hour late arriving and I had to leave to catch a train.

If you go a bit further south you will have nicer weather and a nicer location.

I would think about Pisa or Florence. Not only are the cities beautiful in themselves but they are surrounded by fantastic countryside, olive oil, sunflower and wine producing areas, and wonderful but lesser visited cities like Lucca, Siena and Volterra. Or try Viareggio (20 mins up the coast from Pisa) for a beach break and some art-deco architecture

And Fiorentina’s ground is worth a visit, but I suspect that’s more your thing than hers!

Mrs Ewing treated me to a surprise trip for my 60th. Brilliant. One thing not to miss if it's open is climb to the roof of the Duomo! We didn't do the footy!!

As an alternative to the south, I can recommend the north. You can get a train from Nice along the coast via Monaco and into Italy. Sanremo and Arma di Taggia are worth a visit, and the mountains are stunning.

It’s a great trip.
