Shamima Begum

Having watched 'The walk in' the true story about a neo Nazi that changed his ways and then lectured about the movement, also trying to infiltrate and bring them down, I think there could be some merit in bringing her back, if she truly is remorseful, so she can use her experience to deradicalize others.
For every “one” that changed their opinions and actions there’s many more that just can’t and won’t change their stance. Great story btw, The Walk in, have you watched the documentary about the real Matthew Collins?

She didn't have Bangladeshi nationality, she has a tenuous link to Bangladeshi nationality through a parent or grandparent, I don't know which.
Much the same as the English lads who end up playing for the Republic of Ireland football team.
If I'm not mistaken, the Bangladeshi government have refused to recognise any entitlement she might have to Bangladeshi nationality.
So that makes her as British as you, me or anyone else with a British passport.
The British government can't just wash her hands of her.
A case in some international court would be interesting.
They can't wash their hands of her, but they can give her situation a very low priority and leave her in situ.
And the current government know they only have to delay things for another couple of years and then it becomes Labour's problem.

I think you're probably right.
But a part of me doesn't want this woman back on British soil, because of her actions.
I concede though, you are absolutely correct.
Sometimes my emotions get the better of me, especially when it comes to the subject in hand, for reasons best kept to myself.
I thank you for the debate, I'll bow out of this one now.
Cheers ric

lmao

Under Bangladeshi law anyone born by parents born in Bangladesh is Bangladeshi automatically. She had a dormant dual citizenship so it doesn't matter what Begum or Bangladesh says. International law has not been broken in this case.
That's not entiirely true, because dual nationality is illegal under Bagladeshi law.

According to Sabrina Zarin, of FM Associates , a leading Law Firm in Dhaka and Chittagong, Bangladesh.

https://www.dualcitizenshipreport.org/dual-citizenship/bangladesh/

Her UK citizenship means that she would have to apply to the Bangladeshi Gov't for leave to have dual citizenship, which she has never done ( according to the Bangladeshi Gov't).

Does she have a valid British passport I'm not so sure, If the Bangladeshi Government can wash their hands of her (which would be interesting in some international court) why can't the British Government if they deem her a threat to other British subjects.

Whichever new turn this 'discussion/ argument' has taken, I'm just glad the shitty 'don't want my taxes' dickhead position has been fucked off!!

Now we're just left with the nationality desperation, which has been shredded to pieces!

I'm just waiting for the next cringeworthy take...

Worst thread on the forum this, apart from maybe the religion one

As a taxpayer I'd rather not pay for bombs sold to other countries, paying for fraudulent firms that are pally with the Gov and subsidising big business to fleece me.

But bringing back a silly girl to charge her is pushing the boundaries of decency...?

The mindset of people on this thread that have this argument against the woman, based upon the above, is beyond crazy.

It's not about having a passport. She has never been a Bangladeshi citizen.
You don't cease to be a citizen of a country just because your passport expires.

Not sure why I can't respond directly but I think you'll find, hilts, I was responding to the few arguments about not wanting taxes spent on Begum.

If only you read a few pages before to get the context...

It’s because he didn't actually post anything, just quotes, so there is nothing for the forum software to grab for the reply.
