Shamima Begum

She does and has somewhere to go, forget where

No she doesn't. The authority on who qualifies for Bangladeshi citizenship is (surprise surprise) Bangladesh, and they've confirmed she's not eligible for, and she certianly doesn't currently have, Bangladeshi citizenship.

The UK government is claiming she does because they know it's illegal to make someone stateless and if they follow their own laws they can't strip her of her citizenship.

I've never felt the need to join a banned terrorist organisation so I've never felt my human rights have been infringed.
She deserves all the shit that is being flung in her direction.
I'm sure that all the aid workers ( who were there voluntarily to give aid and help) would have liked their rights to have been observed by her and her evil cohorts .
They got their heads chopped off instead.

I’m not sure how anyone knows what she deserves without a proper trial. Javid might do if he’s privy to additional information, not sure personally still what that could be that didn’t apply to others too though.

How can she have a proper trial? Any trial jury surely wouldn’t be impartial

True, but that’s the same with any high profile case. There’s vetting to try and at least get people most likely to only take into consideration what they hear during the trial.

Either way though, was thinking more around the access to evidence rather than the potential outcome.

Which throws up an easy solution. She surrenders to Syrian authorities for a full trial, serves the appropriate punishment in Syria and once this sentence is complete, she can apply to return to the UK.

Of course, her crimes will lead to the death penalty in Syria, so she should receive the appropriate amount of sympathy as any other British citizen would facing the death penalty in America, Asia or between.

If you are that concerned about her, why not offer to swap places with her. A few years in a Syrian refugee camp would give you plenty of time to think about the evil acts that this bitch has condoned. And try to find some space in your tent for that wanker Domanilo so that he can take his bleeding heart liberal ideas to Syria as well.

I’m not that concerned about her, you seem a lot more emotional about it than me. Just pointing out that in the absence of a trial, I’m not sure anyone aside from Javid can say whether she’s got what she deserved.

If they do, surely they realise the potential dangers of that and the implications if that thought process was applied across the board.

As it stands, like I said, the other groups potentially very happy about todays news will be the radicalist groups themselves and that doesn’t sit comfortably at all with me either.

Well she can go make a life now,, short memories about what she said about the manchester bombing going on, revist her first couple of interviews when she wanted to come back, rot in hell

I’d forgot about those comments. Just had a read now. Unbelievable.

This is the deabte in a nutshell.

One side is concerned about satiating a desire for revenge and punishment.

The other is concerned about upholding the law, and not accepting the precedent that any person with foreign parents can have their citizenship summarily stripped.

We know Shamima Begum is an awful person. She’s an awful British person and she should be tried and held accountable in Britain. Like everyone else who did what she did.

It’s absurd, but not really surprising, that some posters cannot tell the difference between thinking someone should be held accountable by the law, and being secretary of the Shamima Begum fan club.

That’s an easy solution for resolving what happens to her, that wasn’t the point I was making though.

I think we need to remember that the person we are discussing here is the victim of child rape. She was a vulnerable, young child who was raped and people-trafficked whilst 15 years of age. Is it any wonder she then lost her mind and acted so terribly? And before any budding KC argues “she knew what she was doin’ when she got with that forriner“ remember that any sexual intercourse between an adult and a child under the age of 16, even with “consent” is, and always will be, rape.

Try and imagine how you would feel about this poor victim if she was white, with blonde hair and blue eyes, and 15, at the time she was trafficked and raped.

What this poor rape victim needs is succour and support, from the country of her birth. Bring her home, by all means try her for her crimes (and ensure she is provided with a robust defence team, as is her absolute right), and afterwards help her live as normal a life as possible. After the way we have washed our hands of her, it is the very very least she deserves.

We accepted Gary Glitter back after he raped his way through South East Asia.

Personally think she should be tried over here and put in prison if found guilty. She was a British citizen she joined isis on our watch, like Dom said if her story didn't go viral she would have already been back here.

She's our responsibility not Syrias or Bangladesh. Maybe we could send her Australia like the good old days.

But,she isn't here, can't you see how much time, effort and hassle this would be,she's gone, move on,not welcome back, finito, whatever way you need to absorb it.

The decision is made,no soothsayer on BM is gonna change that for fuck sake man.
