Shaun Wright Phillips

why have our players stopped giving the man with ball options, nobody makes runs and makes space at the moment
my opinion as well, seems that fear of making a mistake is coming back, not wanting to take command of the move will cost us dear. Backwards and sideways is ok if it makes space ,but when it puts us under pressure then it needs stopping. the man with the ball needs options and that comes with movement off the ball

i thought he was off his game yesterday, to be fair when he did get to the by line there was very little to aim at. rocky was so off the pace it was'nt true.
Don't want to jump to rash conclusions after one league start, but if RSC's meant to be anywhere close to full fitness then I fear he's finished. He looked like Bambi running through treacle for much of the game and wimped out of so many 50-50s that he may as well not have even bothered playing. I fully appreciate that he's suffered a serious injury, but if he can't even bring himself to run at full pelt or stick his foot in when the balls bouncing around the box, then he's not got much of a future left in top-flight football. I fear he's finally been psychologically defeated by all these injuries he's suffered.

Wrighty's lost "something" to me...I don't know whether it's his first touch,or just that initial burst of pace but he no longer seems able to skip past his man the same way he did before he went to Chelsea.

swp had one of his best games this season imo,but i think his decision making onthe final ball wasnt great after getting in great positions so often, another problem was not enough men were getting into the box,we were out numbered every time six to our three,(2 defensive midfielders not supporting attack)rsc is still getting up to full fitness and had no movement inthe box.shauny did show us once again he can beat a man he has great control and energy, never stopped running all game and helped out zabba when needed.

Why are we so persistent on hoofing the long ball, yesterday it just kept putting us under more pressure. Under sge we played it out from the back which with the talent we have shouldn't be a problem.

I totally agree, I am sick of seeing Given and the back 4 launch long balls to Bellamy and SWP! Then again our passing through the midfield has been woeful for a month so I guess our options are limited at the moment!

Sweep really needs to improve on his end product.

He took up some fantastic positions yesterday, all he needed to do was find a man in blue (black) but nearly every single occasion failed to make the pass.

Disappointing really because pre Chelsea he had a much better end product. Not perfect but much better than it is now.

I thought he did well and KNEW he would come in for criticism.
