Shocking Journalism

Yep - Injuries to Darren Fletcher and Tom (Zidane) Cleverley is the reason we won the title. There you have it in black and white. FFS!
How about because we won more games, lost less games, scored more goals, conceded less goal and had more clean sheets?

If anyone was going to attempt to draw any kind of link up between the injuries and the final league standings then they'd be only considering one aspect amongst many. Owen missed a huge amount of time, but how much actual playing time would he have seen during that time? Conversely Aguero would likely have started all the games he missed. So, although Aguero only missed 14 days on 2 occasions, that equates to probaly 4 or 5 games. It could be argued Owen would need to miss 2 or 3 times the amount of actual days Aguero did to miss the similar amount of actual playing time.

The figures also don't take into account other factors, such as suspensions, International duty or "absences". How much time, in total, did Balotelli and Kompany miss through suspension? Toure through the ACON? Tevez through being a bellend? A great deal indeed, and it could also be well argued that those 4 were all important first team players, players would would start regularly (or always in 2 cases). Cleverley, Anderson and Owen don't really compare.

Personally I don't think the journalist is specifically trying to draw any conclusion from his article, although the subtext is pretty clear. City were stunningly lucky with injuries, United were stunningly unlucky. Combine that with a goal difference title win and many would argue this was the deciding factor in the title race. I don't agree.

Hmmm, so Mancini's training regimen, that some players complained about, has actually resulted in us being the fittest club in the Prem? As well as the best?

Nice.

Rags expecting VIdic to pick up where he left off are in for a big shock.
At his age, and with that particular type of injury, let alone the length of the lay-off, he will never be the same player again.
His game never depended on pace, but he will be even slower than he was.
I would go so far as to predict he will no longer be a first choice United player by the start of the 2013-14 season

It most certainly is no sure thing that Vidic will return to be the player he was. He's 30 years old now, so reaching that age where injuries are more commonplace, and recovery is a more lengthy experience. A serious knee injury is never easy to return from at any stage in a career, but entering the latter part of it and the issues are greater. He has a chance at returning to his former glories, it wouldn't be the first time this had happened for a player, but it's far more likely he'll be not quite as good as in the past, and continue to decline as all players do when they reach their 30's. There's a reason United spent a lot of money on Smalling and Jones in the last few years, they knew Ferdinand and Vidic would both be in their 30's and declining as footballers by now and would need replacing.

Well to be fair we won and lost the exact same number of games as the rags. It was the scored more and conceded less that was the key ;)

United relying on a crocked player and journalists suggesting that if Vidic was fit (He isn't/wasn't and never will be again) they would have won the league.

I smell bulshittus raggus from the journo.

Sorry, but this is nothing more than pure manipulation of facts (some of which are more than dubious).

Does it really hurt these people so much that we won the league?

It's not saying that. Its simply a table compiled from the number of injuries and a bit of an analysis of it. No problem with it whatsoever me, it's just a factual piece.

Agreed.

If Vinnie had been out the length of time Vidic has - we would NOT have won the league. Simples.

Maybe it was down to better squad rotation and training methods. As a result less injuries. Simples!

And maybe it had nothing to do with that.

Do you think we would have won the league if Vinnie was injured for the length of time time that Vidic has been. A yes or no will suffice.

they knew vidic was out for the season early doors, had that been vinny we'd have bought again in january. they couldn't. we win :)

maybe we should say fuck united, the lower number of injuries helped us win the league but we had fewer injuries due to the club's good management of players and we should we be congratulated for this, not have it used as a stick to beat us with and say the rags are better
