No.
Spot onYes.
National Service can be great for career development, learning new skills, gaining an education, learning life skills, bringing people of different backgrounds together who might never meet in other circumstances, it creates people with more rounded personalities, gets youths off the streets and takes them away from situations where they’re idly not attending college or work and sat around smoking weed all day, it teaches people discipline and how to set and achieve goals, it brings people out of their shells, it builds bonds and friendships that can last for life.
In counties such as Norway, NS is looked upon very positively and is done with pride.

Because we had hundreds and thousands who volunteered to join, now they are struggling to recruit. Why would we have National Service now when post 1963 we had no Army conscripts from National Service. Considering the threat from the USSR was much higher then Vs now?
I'm also not convinced the current crop of nubile young men could be trusted with the knowledge of how to use deadly firearms. Many of the shootings in the US are carried out by ex-armed forces members.Fortunately, unlike WW1, the public can't be conned so easily now.
Ye but they have easy access to guns us fortunately notI'm also not convinced the current crop of nubile young men could be trusted with the knowledge of how to use deadly firearms. Many of the shootings in the US are carried out by ex-armed forces members.
So good for scumbags then…Yes.

I have all that, no service required, as do most of my friends. Just because you might have it from the forces doesn’t make it unique. Also doesn’t mean todays young people need to be forced to join up to find exactly the same thing.Great post
Problem is in the UK the youth in the main have no pride just an IPhone.
3 of us who joined up together 51 years ago had a get together here in Spain last Saturday fuck me I was pissed.
Friendships that long are formed from being in the forces three lads from different parts of the country different up bringing soppy as it sounds we would still give up all for each other

Don't know you're age but you could be in for a very rude awakening.I think the problem could be more that the older generation have lost all grip on reality?
I am happy you have such good friends you are rare this generation will not have itI have all that, no service required, as do most of my friends. So we sit and wait thumb up bum before we do something to lateRight now?
No. It would cost an absolute fortune to implement (barracks, training facilities, equipment, admin & training staff) and their would be no tangible output other than minimally trained cannon fodder.
In the future? Depends on the geopolitical situation.

You can take that from a FOC who has probably lost a few marbles doing the dirty work so many on here are afraid of.
God help us if we have to rely on this generation.
Generation Z WTF

Trouble is if you don’t prepare you’re fucked same as having the right weapons etc. I saw an interesting YouTube video of a tech guy in usa about he is building weapons that can be quickly replicated in current factories such as car building factories. In a conventional war most countries will run out within 8 weeks, yiu can’t just build an F35 every week, I didn’t know it but in WW2 tanks, planes etc were designed around factories available at the time and the people could build easily, this guy is building drones etc that could be made in your nearest car factory by the robots and people there for mass production.Right now?

Don’t you think the current situation warrants action now?Right now?

See what I mean you rely on cartoons for you're argument thanks for making my point .Reading old gits who made the world what it is blaming the young for the state of it is hilarious.

Also makes me wonder how many decades it is since you actually talked to anyone under 30.
