Can't see us spending big on a young central defender.

I was under the impression we were priming Rekik and Savic to become first team players? Buying Martinez (or Thiago as other threads mention) to play along side Kompany would be a big blow to these guys chances.

If Rekik is as good as I hear he is, I suspect he'll take over as Lescott moves into his 30's. Same goes for Savic (if he can prove himself on a loan).

Certainly hope so in savic's case. No amount of loan deals or experience will make this guy anywhere near good enough for us because he simply doesn't have the talent.

Martinez can play in either central defence or midfield, so if Rekik and Savic were to live up to their potential Martinez would just move in to midfield permanently.

We wouldn't buy him as a centre-back, he would be bought as a midfielder.

But if needed for cover/rotation depending on who we sign anyway for CB role, we have that necessity to use him.

It's been said many times but if we bought Martinez we might not have to buy a defender/midfielder because he can do both. Unless Mancini wants him very specifically for one position like how Kompany never plays DM anymore. But it sounds like a very prudent buy as it could save us a big transfer fee on another player. £24million (same price as Silva) is good value I think because of his age, talent, and potential.

Just having a little think about potential transfers:

......................Hart.................
Richards...Kompany...Lescott...Clichy
..............Yaya.....Martinez........
.....Hazard....................Silva....
...............Aguero...Tevez........

Can you believe that?

I'm sorry but I don't think you're in any position to judge that. The coaching staff see them almost every day of the week and decided he is worth playing. We see him for 90 minutes every now and then under intense pressure, in front of thousands of City fans expecting a win.

Also, Savic played two games with our leader and captain, and that was Villareal away and Bayern Munich home. Big big game and they kept a clean sheet in both.

Every other game he's played with Lescott. As much as I think Lescott is a fantastic defender and first choice with Kompany, he hasn't got the leadership ability Kompany has. Kompany could take a young player under his wing and help them through a game until they found their feet to do it on their own. We've seen countless times where Kompany is organising things at the back. Savic never got that with Lescott.

Not to mention there have been plenty of players who have had a poor first season with us then gone on to become great. Lescott, Barry, even Kompany took some criticism on here for his first 6 months!

The expectation is too short termist on here, so if the management team decide to keep him on, I'll go with that, and trust in them. I've got a feeling Savic will come good!

To be fair to the lad he had a great game at home to Bayern playing right back.

He played Bayerns reserve side and one average performance in 13-14 games isn't great.
