If we only brought in 1 guy this summer Martinez should be the one.

Then I would call that transfer window exceptional.

:)

Well I'm honest, - it would make our midfield next to perfect (as I see him primarily as a defence oriented midfielder á la Busquets, but with more stamina and strength)
Just imagine:

------------- Martinez --------------
------ YaYa ----------- Silva -------

That one of the two best centre midfields in the world of football, only beaten by Barcelona. This would mean Silva would start in a slightly deeper position than what he does now, but I don't see that as anything which would make us poorer in any way considering the freedom he'll have with his positioning and movement.

YaYa should be more careful with his positioning though, an occasional YaYa-run is always welcome but he has to stick to his right place.

Yes, - Sign martinez now!

I see the press now have him going to the Rags - don't you tire of this nonsense; like they are going to invest circa 40m in one player again this summer - they spent all their cash last summer - they will sell Berbatov but I cant see them having a big transfer pot - the numbers just dont add up after they lost out on the Chumps league pot of gold this year.

Well if he does leave Bilbao this summer, and it ain't for us... I'll probably kill myself. Okay if he moves to Barcelona, I can accept that... but no other club. Man united? Please no, never... please!

The press keep saying they are after Hazard, Gaiten and Martinez. So that's about £90mill they are spending... lol absolutely no way they will have that to spend.

Unless they sold Rooney to Real Madrid for around the same sum.

They spent +50 Million last summer on 3 players without paying huge wages.

And all the 3 players played a big part in them being at the Top of the table now.

Has anyone watched him enough times to give a proper opinion on him, also is he more of a centre back or centre mid?

Midfielder. He started playing at centre back this season.

Players don't leave Athletic hardly ever. Last high profile departure was 7 years ago when Del Horno went to Chelsea. That is still a record sale for Athletic. They've had one player sign a TEN year contract in the past (Julen Guerroro) and one guy play for free for a season, just for the honour of playing 500 games for the club (Exteberria). It is unwise to pin hopes on signing anyone from Athletic let alone 2 or even 3 as some have mentioned!

These players are loyal beyond belief...most people wouldn't even begin to understand.

As ever, money talks.....I don't think a club like Bilbao could turn down our cash.
They could turn down any offer because they don't need the money. Due to their policy Athletic can't go and splash some money on the transfer market like most of clubs usually do.
And one of the reasons Athletic keep their players longer than other clubs is because their players are very well paid(they can't spend their money on the trasnfermaket, so they do on wages).
Players like Javi Martinez or Llorente could be on 5-6 millions/season.
