40 mill for a defensive player no way in hell.i don't care how good you are.

This guy can play CB, DMF, CMF (played this at under 21s comp and ran the show for spain, even mata was pushed out wide and this guy was that good) and box to box. Worth every penny.

Martinez is as good as they get. But the question for City will ne if they really need his services at his cost.

I would say yes, his buyout is £33mill. That doesn't mean that's what Bilboa will get, I think he's likely to go for between £25 and £30.

I think most would agree we need a quality CB which he is (better than Vertonghen), he can also cover for Yaya ( and a successor to him) or play alongside him ala DeJong/Milner/Barry and play CMF. He can also play as a box to box midfielder and has done so and scored from time to time.

Most on here say you can't bench a quality CB but with his versitility he would get plenty of games. He also saves us money because you get three players for the price of one. On this basis he is actually cheap. Martinez, pacey winger, 3rd keeper and Gudetti and were done.

Net spend over the summer with all deadwood gone will be zero and a massive saving on wages.

Scouts will be at Old Trafford to watch Martinez for Bilbao against the scum tonight. He is said to be high on our wish list according to the Spanish report below.

As Mad points out above, Martinez would be the ideal player to sign due to his age, quality, versatility and potential. He has the capacity to play in a lot of different positions being ridiculously good in them all.
I'd like to see him first and foremost as an upgrade on our defensive mf, as in De Jong, but he could easily stand in for Lescott or play further up the pitch like YaYa does every so often.

If I had my way.

IN- Vertonghen Replacement for Lescott (get rid of Kolo) (Ajax 15m)
Martinez (33m) Replacement for Barry

Summer 2013
Mario Gotze Replacement for YaYa

-Wake up with wet patch on pants. A boy can dream ;)

£48m for Vertongen & Martinez? Jesus christ are you Abramovich?

Martinez this season: P46 Gls 3 Ass 1 YC 16 RC 2.

So a less effective version of Gaz Baz then?

Our main CM were Yaya and Barry, with Milner & NDJ as covers.

So Milner is a potential replacement for Barry, while Martinez could be a good cover for Yaya.

As good as he is, we just don't need him. The midfield is fucking ace as it is. Silva, Yaya and Nasri can all play the central attacking role. And Milner, Barry and De Jong can play the central defensive ones. We only need a left winger and a center back. Job done. Oh, and a 4th choice striker.

The current wage bill is a big concern with FFPR, so I can see more people leaving than coming in this summer.

Tevez will be gone, and after their loan spells, Adebayor, Bridge and RSC all come back onto our wage bill, so they have to go as well. Pizzaro and Hargreaves will probably go as well.

Edin Hazard and Vertonghen are the best buys for me.

After tonights performance, I think we do need this guy. He also played well tonight against the Rags

I admired him because he was a complete player. He did everything; he attacked, defended, won possession, he passed, he shot. I would be happy to be even a quarter of what he was
- Javi Martinez on Patrick Vieira

You basically get two players for the price of one, a centre back and midfielder, but I wonder where Mancini would prefer to play him? I'd guess in midfield as our midfield seems short on ideas whenever Yaya is out and Martinez has the drive and technical ability to offer a lot in midfield.

I would like to see him starting alongside Yaya, but I am not sure if Milner or Barry will be happy to see him starting ahead of them.

If we sign only one player this summer, I hope it is Javi Martinez.

A midfiled of Yaya, Javi and Silva would bring us the Prem title for sure next season.

Definitely need a right footed winger with pace to stretch teams especially when Richards is out of the team. Veira is a huge idol for Martinez maybe we can use that.

After seeing an aging Pizarro, it makes me wonder about the future of players like them at the club. They are so limited. When we struggle like last night, they are unable to relieve the pressure with a dangerous pass or quick feet.

The future for this club are midfielders with vision who can place a pass like Pizarro, Yaya and Martinez IMHO.

But the club has a vision of building a successful team with a core of English players.

In addition to that, there is a rule that force the team to have a certain number of English + home grown players, and this rule will force the manager to stick with some English players.
