Singing section/Atmosphere

It's not the singing section as such, it's the amount of people not singing.

I see and hear smaller groups of Fans/Ultras in the Bundesliga, Serie A and La Liga, and they make more constant noise than our South Stand lower tier and Kippax Corner put together.

Let's just face facts. Our fans can't be arsed singing constantly en-masse. We've also got an aging support.

1894, even though they do try, and I include myself in that group, are situated in the worst place possible place to create an atmosphere, i.e., under the concrete overhang at the top of block 115. The noise doesn't travel. Nobody bar those in that area, and further down in 115 can hear the chants. My partner, step daughter above in 212, and my mates in the SS 3rd tier can't hear the chants.

The new singing section in 115 has failed. There's not point in having 10-20 lads trying to get songs going at the back of the block, when hundreds of fans in front and either side of the block are not joining in or can't be bothered to join in.

The club is trying, but not enough. It's knocked back various requests and ideas to improve the atmosphere, which have followed meetings, after meetings.

The club can't allocate a large group of singers prime seats in the middle of block 115 as they have all been taken by season ticket holders. The very season ticket holders who relocated to the new singing section in 115, but they don't sing. The only seats left to get a large group of fans together are at the front of the block. And even then, those behind that group at the front don't bother singing. They stand there in silence. What's the f***ing point!? After all, it is the new official singing section. Or is it?

TBH it's a f***ing mess, even though 1894 are trying their best to improve the atmosphere.

Until the stadium is expanded again, which I doubt it will be given the on-going empty seats issue, and until the club create a proper singing section, and allow ideas to be trailed, without capitulating to security and h&s rules and regulations, and pressure from people within the club, the atmosphere at the Etihad will never improve.

Yes this is a rant, but bar the big games, it seems as a club, and as a set of fans, we are forever going around in circles with this atmosphere issue.

Good night. :-)

PS. Thank f*** for Pep. Because I'd hate to think what the atmosphere would be like at the Etihad with a s*** City team.

when everyone tonight sang we were actually loud in the south stand. theres just not enough people singing or joining in. i was in 119 tonight trying to join and sing but people are stood there like robots and dont react or sing at all. its bizarre, people were just staring at the away fans ??

we do need a proper home end that accommodates way more people, as you basically can't compete with away fans ( 8,000 tonight?). the 1894 group need to be at the front instead of the back. also the choice of songs was a bit strange from 115 i thought. it was 1-1 and rather then sing songs everyone can join in with, they start singing about dzeko ???

True indeed jrb,

Even in the Prem when teams like Bournemouth and Watford don’t even sell out the bottom tier I’ll glance over to the Singing Section and see people clapping and singing but I often can’t hear them for some chants they appear to be singing. And everyone around them just stand there with their arms folded.

But nights like tonight are really annoying in terms of atmosphere. Didn’t matter what the Singing Section did, couldn’t hear a thing from them. It was like putting one of those little bluetooth speakers for your phone beneath those giant sound systems at gigs and trying to hear it over the booming noise from above.

I know they obviously haven’t purposely meant to do this but it seems like everything the club has done at the Etihad has been to purposely hinder the atmosphere and make us look like shit fans.

They get so much right this great club but they are CLUELESS when it comes to football fan culture and atmosphere.

When you’re within an area like that you always think it’s loud.

The truth is, away from it, it’s just a mumour at one end. Mostly out-noised by any set of away fans in Level 3 when they get going.

I think the people who asked for it to be near the away fans, were conceding that they are no good at supporting the team without someone else winding them up.

The only club who volunteers to give its 'end' up to away fans & that's down to the short sightedness of those who requested being near them.

maybe mate, in 119. when we scored most people were singing and it sounded loud. i was in the colin bell stand against burnley and second half i thought we were loud. all we need is more people singing. european fans/ away fans have shown that. the hamburg game a few years ago swell.

the idea we need away fans to create an atmosphere is a complete myth imo. we've had them in the middle of the south stand for years now and it makes no difference at all noise wise. people throw a few v signs and thats it really. it was ridiculous to give our end to away fans basically and split up our support. our singing section is tiny and we need to find a solution to this for once and create a proper home end.

It's hard to hear in other parts of the ground. I was in SS1 on Saturday and even next to the singing section the noise doesn't travel well.

Bristol fans were very loud up top.
