Singing section/Atmosphere

Tonight the noise made by 7000 fans in one stand was impressive. But it makes you think, that’s only just over half of the Anfield Kop.

Imagine being provided with a stand of 12000 all for your own fans in one tier by the club. It’s going to be even bigger at White Hart Lane when it’s done.

We’ve got a block in a small tier next to away fans or completely surrounded by away fans in the cups. It’s pitiful and just so plainly in the wrong place, it really gets under my skin!

I think the people who asked for it to be near the away fans, were conceding that they are no good at supporting the team without someone else winding them up.

The only club who volunteers to give its 'end' up to away fans & that's down to the short sightedness of those who requested being near them.

No one requested being near them, South Stand 111 was never sold out until the club made it a "singing section", and that was several years after the move.

We had the whole of the North Stand lower but no one was interested so they expanded the family stand into it.

Fantastic support in numbers tonite.
I really enjoyed it!

KDB tried to push up blue supporters after his goal.
We really do need more chants, and routines everybody knows.
I hope the club steps into talks with our supporter groups to get something startet.

Always takes a goal to get people going and even then it can be up and down.

Definitely need more songs!

It generates no atmosphere though; you can't hear it in the away end. Like most club I suppose, bit when we beat Villa in the UEFA eliminator in 2005, the Holt end was reallly loud.

Singing constantly for singing's sake is so yesterday. Mancs lead the way in this world and if that means we sing when we want then so be it.
Next thing we'll be Germans turning our backs with choreography megaphone cheerleader nob heads telling us what we're singing next.

It's not the singing section as such, it's the amount of people not singing.

I see and hear smaller groups of Fans/Ultras in the Bundesliga, Serie A and La Liga, and they make more constant noise than our South Stand lower tier and Kippax Corner put together.

Let's just face facts. Our fans can't be arsed singing constantly en-masse. We've also got an aging support.

1894, even though they do try, and I include myself in that group, are situated in the worst place possible place to create an atmosphere, i.e., under the concrete overhang at the top of block 115. The noise doesn't travel. Nobody bar those in that area, and further down in 115 can hear the chants. My partner, step daughter above in 212, and my mates in the SS 3rd tier can't hear the chants.

The new singing section in 115 has failed. There's not point in having 10-20 lads trying to get songs going at the back of the block, when hundreds of fans in front and either side of the block are not joining in or can't be bothered to join in.

The club is trying, but not enough. It's knocked back various requests and ideas to improve the atmosphere, which have followed meetings, after meetings.

The club can't allocate a large group of singers prime seats in the middle of block 115 as they have all been taken by season ticket holders. The very season ticket holders who relocated to the new singing section in 115, but they don't sing. The only seats left to get a large group of fans together are at the front of the block. And even then, those behind that group at the front don't bother singing. They stand there in silence. What's the f***ing point!? After all, it is the new official singing section. Or is it?

TBH it's a f***ing mess, even though 1894 are trying their best to improve the atmosphere.

Until the stadium is expanded again, which I doubt it will be given the on-going empty seats issue, and until the club create a proper singing section, and allow ideas to be trailed, without capitulating to security and h&s rules and regulations, and pressure from people within the club, the atmosphere at the Etihad will never improve.

Yes this is a rant, but bar the big games, it seems as a club, and as a set of fans, we are forever going around in circles with this atmosphere issue.

Good night. :-)

PS. Thank f*** for Pep. Because I'd hate to think what the atmosphere would be like at the Etihad with a s*** City team.

Correct..I’m in 116 and even we can’t hear the 1894 in 115

I’ve said in the past. I genuinely think the last new City chant we made up was The Best Team In The Land And All The World about twenty years ago.

Not had a new City chant since.

It’s always player or manager chants and they come and go so often you lose them and are left with nothing but the tired old chants.

We need to forget about player and manager chants and get some new City chants!

Hands up I'm not in the Country most of the Season but I've served my time over the decades. My recent experience of the Family Stand was not great . One issue was that when we were down the other end you had to turn backwards to look at the cameras to see what the hell was going on. Surrounded as I was by youngsters I was surprised at their lack of engagement. No singing, nothing really unless we scored. Part of this was due to our long periods of possession which hypnotised the opposition but tranquilized the crowd.
An observation of the younger fans was that it was a bit like being in a Cinema ,people watching ,munching snacks and generally just watching.....I don't know what the solution is other than the 'embarrasement' at singing might be overcome if adjoining areas were making noise.
