Ramsbottom. Hear me out.

At the Manchester Food and Drink Festival a couple of months back, The Chocolate Cafe won cafe of the year whilst Ramsons won restaurant of the year. Other nice places to eat too (Indian, Thai, etc). Micro brewery is supposed to be very good too.

Get steam train from Bury to Rammy. Farmers Market at rammy (not sure if that's on sat or sun) or Bury Market are both worth a visit according to a thread from last week.

Park in Barley and just walk up. Or you can park on road at foot of pendle which cuts out having to walk up through some fields to get to the base of pendle. There is a small community centre type building, no idea when it opens though and it's pretty boring inside. There is a small playpark near Barley car park and both a small cafe (think cafe closes at 3) and a pub.

Try Bakewell, just a bit further down the A6. Nice for a wander, a couple of great pubs and a fantastic Scotch shop.

Yep they're also brill - Bakewell and Buxton.

I live near Buxton and go there regularly ( Waitrose). No way can it be described as "brill"! It's a failing mess of a place. The crescent is still boarded up and falling down. There's rubbish everywhere and half the town centre shopping area is made up of empty shops, charity shops and outdoor discount shops. Sorry, mate. It's nothing like it used to be.

Bakewell is better and a drive through Chatsworth is always nice.

A relation of mine who lives in Buxton fixed up a flat for me in Buxton at a good price. No chance, I would end up slitting my throat, a totally dissapointing and depressing place. The one good thing is the Opera House. It as great sound, well worth a trip over the Cat and Fiddle. A shout here for Liverpool as Newcastle is to far. Probably the best two city centres in England.

Like the look of Clitheroe, just had a google.

The Trough of Bowland is nice. Just beyond Clitheroe. Grassington near Skipton is very nice too.

There are great pubs all over that area such as Downham, Sawley, Hurst Green etc.
