do you just park in barley and walk up? is there visitors centre and stuff for kids or is it just a walk?
Park in Barley and just walk up. Or you can park on road at foot of pendle which cuts out having to walk up through some fields to get to the base of pendle. There is a small community centre type building, no idea when it opens though and it's pretty boring inside. There is a small playpark near Barley car park and both a small cafe (think cafe closes at 3) and a pub.
There are great pubs all over that area such as Downham, Sawley, Hurst Green etc.

Have to agree with this. There's also the Three Fishes just outside of Whalley (another decent place to visit) owned by Nigel Howarth from telly fame.
I reckon this part of Lancashire must be the best foody place in the North West.
Oh, and I must agree with a previous poster about Bolton Abbey being a cracking walking day out, particlularly if you have dogs.
