Skipton, or somewhere like it.

whats the deal with pendle hill?
do you just park in barley and walk up? is there visitors centre and stuff for kids or is it just a walk?

Park in Barley and just walk up. Or you can park on road at foot of pendle which cuts out having to walk up through some fields to get to the base of pendle. There is a small community centre type building, no idea when it opens though and it's pretty boring inside. There is a small playpark near Barley car park and both a small cafe (think cafe closes at 3) and a pub.

There are great pubs all over that area such as Downham, Sawley, Hurst Green etc.

Have to agree with this. There's also the Three Fishes just outside of Whalley (another decent place to visit) owned by Nigel Howarth from telly fame.

I reckon this part of Lancashire must be the best foody place in the North West.

Oh, and I must agree with a previous poster about Bolton Abbey being a cracking walking day out, particlularly if you have dogs.

Skipton is well worth a visit - the castle is a good way to waste a few hours. As said earlier, the market isn't anything special

Harrogate is nice - just don't get drawn into spending £10 on a pot of tea in Betty's !

A 49 from m56 south if you like driving, Beeston castle, ice cream and candle factories, plenty of puebs/cafes on way. Whitchurch or Nantwich even Wrexham are ok for a stroll.
Alternatively you could take a look into what the future holds for the uk outside the m25. Ellesmere port to runcorn widnes crewe is an eye-opener

Conway is a nice place for a stroll, a few nice shops, pubs and fucking big castle.
Also your only ten to fifteen minutes drive away from all the sheep you can fuck.!

Skipton has a cracking butchers down a side street that sells the best beef pies I've ever tasted. Also some good pubs - I recommend Timothy Taylor's Golden Best at the Woolly Sheep. Just down the road at a place called Elslack is the Tempest Arms, which is quite possibly the best dining pub in the UK, and is not stupidly dear either, though not exactly cheap.

Harrogate is another good 'un. Go in Graveley's fish and chip restaurant and order the jumbo haddock - you will not need to eat for the rest of the day, and it's only about £11-95. Some good shops too, although sadly the best bookshop has gone down the khazi.

We enjoy a day out up to Grasmere and Ambleside then on the way back we call in at Kirkby Lonsdale for eats and drinks then head down through the trough of Bowland, lovely drive, then picking up the moterway near Burnley then the M66 bak home.

Good shout. Ingleton and just North on the Hawes road also very nice. Waterfalls walk or a hike up Ingleborough. White scar cave. Good pubs all round. Hill Inn. Wheatsheaf. Marton Arms. Then drop back down through Ingleton/ High Bentham onto the Slaidburn road through the trough. Hark to Bounty in Slaidburn. Or if you feel like a treat go dead posh at the Inn at Whitewell before dropping back onto the motorway near Longridge. Loads more. Beautiful area all round for a good mooch.

Kirby Longsdale then do the back roads to Skipton on the way home. Nice drive also

-- Thu Feb 16, 2012 8:54 am --

Used to live during the week next door to Bettys. People waiting outside the door just to pay those prices.

I haven't read the thread so no idea if it has been suggested, but I like Sawley. Lovely little place with the abbey ruins which I find fascinating (I'm sad like that) and a good little pub across the road from there.
