Sky Sports Deals

As a product i think the Sky q platform is fantastic and we have it in 4 rooms throughout the house and is superb. However for them to think people spending £100 plus a month on a TV subscription in the current climate is realistic they are just so far out of touch. They treat their existing customers like crap with constant rises in prices and normally once deals end its a game of cat and mouse to cancelling before they even consider giving you a half decent deal. This was the point for me where i'd had enough and decided i would keep the sky q basic and multiroom and then use IPTV for all sports, movies and series. Overall its saves me about £800 a year.
Why do you think Sky Q is so good if you don't mind me asking? It's just a recorder box to me. If it gets sent back then I'll use the apps on the TV, or the Roku stick, or the freeview recorder box - they're on every device these days. (Plus my TV is android so I can put NordVPN on it and get different Netflix region content).

Just cancelled mine as they wanted to go from £36 to £65 pm. She spent 30 minutes trying to find me a better deal and came back with £61! It's such a palaver and they obviously try to keep you on the phone as long as possible in the hope you'll feel sorry for the person on the other end of the call. That £65pm is a good deal (according to Sky) and they have already thrown in the fact it would be £85 for new customers. At the end of the day I put a value on what I want to pay for this service and I say £40 max. I think Sky overvalue their product, but bet they'll come back with 50% off (i.e £42.50) before the box needs sending back. Not sure I'd miss it that much if they don't.
They tried to put mine up too, so I am trying out IPTV at present. Working out well at the moment.

The great thing i like about it is if you record on one box, its available to watch in any room i have a box. You pause it on one TV, go up to bed and then just continue. I think the menus are really slick, good guides and really easy to use. Overall, i think its a really good product and much better than say the virgin or BT tv options. That being said, not a chance in hell id pay the kind of money they were asking for.

We only have the main Q box but it's by far the slickest box out there. Admittedly if it wasn't for the wife I probably wouldn't have it myself as we only have Signature (£16, soon to be £17 in April) plus the Netflix sub at £5, goes up to £6 in May) plus a free HD add-on. She likes to record things to watch later so there's no way I can get rid. Those prices were all offered (plus various credits) after we had a disastrous attempt at taking on a Sky Glass TV last Oct/Nov so I don't have to contact them for another 15 months or so.

Happily I've always found Sky easy to talk to, they gave me a 3 year deal at £3.60 a month for their 2GB sim with free calls & texts at the same time.

Edit: I forgot Disney+ at £7.99 but that's a monthly add-on anyway.

I bought a Freeview recorder box just before starting my last Sky contract as we both like to record the odd film or series every now or then. My TV viewing is so low now though, I just seem to be watching Only Fools and Horses on UK Gold, old episodes of Tipping Point and snooker on Eurosport!! Apart from Succession on Sky One (or whatever it's called now) there's absolutely nothing I can say has really grabbed me in the last few years. The free channels, Netflix and Disney+ get most use.

Honestly I figure since I hardly go to any games any more (too far away) AND after COVID, me and the Mrs are not doing things like eating out as much, AND we didn't spend a shed load on holidays over the last couple of years... then if I have to bung Sky £80 a month for Sky Q in 3 rooms, including everything they have inc UHD, AND BT Sport AND Netflix, then so be it. The system is brilliant and the content extensive. I am quite happy to pay it TBH.

Whether I will feel the same when I am retired and on limited income? Maybe that will change.
