Slovakia v England match thread

Defence is fine, Attack is potentially fine, it's the shit in midfield that are holding this team back

Henderson - doesn't really offer anything going forward or backwards
Dier - Solid at his job but lacks the passing to launch attacks etc so needs creative players next to him, English Fernando
Rooney - get the ball at left cm, take a touch inside, pass out to the right back, repeat(watch how often he'll do this vs us on the weekend)

Let's just accept that England are on a par with the likes of Wales, Poland, Turkey and Croatia ... and set our expectations accordingly.

Allardyce, who took over from Roy Hodgson in July, says he "can't stop" Rooney from dropping into midfield, claiming that the player has a "lot more experience at international football" than he does.

"It's not for me to say where he's going to play," added the former Sunderland, West Ham, Newcastle and Bolton boss, 61. "It's up to me to ask whether he's doing well in that position and contributing."

YOU'RE THE FUCKING ENGERLAND MANAGER YOU FAT ****. YOU TELL THE PLAYERS WHERE THEY PLAY!!!!
Exactly !!!!!

WTF was Sammy Lee doing there and how does Martyn Margetson get a job as a goalkeeping coach!

I'd believe that if he drops the granny shagger from his next squad.
He will not.
Nor will Jose
Nor did van gal
Nor did moyes.
Contractual issues underpin so much of big business such as football.Whoever advises Wayne Elephant (in the room) imo should be knighted, cos when he held fergie scum and the rags to ransom those few years ago he got probably the most brilliant contract ever given in the history of football. He is clearly contracted to play,if fit ,for utd and England and cannot be dropped.the 300k per week means he is stealing a living and taking the piss out of his club side and the national team.is his agent still Paul Stretford? Whoever he is he makes Yaya and pogba agents look like amateurs....and yet this clever man gets no grief from the media.the player has been awful for a good three seasons now and there is not a single thing any person can do to halt the embarrassing scenario cos Rooney, the elephant, is protected by contract law.
The announcement from Ellie that he is to play for england for a further two years merely confirms my view that that as far as utd and England are concerned the tail is definitely wagging the dog.
I ,for one am pleased he is holding back utd, imagine if they had a skilful, mobile goalscoring no.10..one who scores and assists with the regularity a top class player on a huge contract should. At the moment Ellie has about as much cutting edge as Paul Dickov...good thing his agent is a little sharper...

Missed most of the match
Can anyone please give us a run down on sterling and stones performances, I'm aware Raheem was subbed.was that down to being ineffective.?
How was Stones defending and passing out from the back..?

I was driving home and listening on TalkShite for the commentary.

Sterling had a good game, and was one of the few players receiving some credit for trying to make things happen. Most of the blame was put at Kane's door for not offering to feet and letting people run off him, i.e. we kept going sideways and backwards.

Stuart Pearce was crying out for Stones and Dier to be swapped to let Stones play in midfield and dictate getting the ball forward as he was the only only trying to play between the lines.

Certainly from listening, it sounded like both of them tried to implement what Pep has been teaching them, in getting the ball forward and play, but didnt have the required support to do it effectivly.
