Smoking

I had a biopsy last year and the procedure was explained beforehand to me that the lung would deflate, although I couldn’t say by how much. What I can say is unfortunately I did have an air lock afterwards and that was painful, something that that doctor explained might happen beforehand.
Sounds like you were unlucky and capped a few of the side effects!

Not everyone will get a pneumothorax (air leak into the space between the lungs lining), which is what causes the lung to "deflate", but it certainly isn't uncommon when compared to most side effects so it's not unreasonable to warn patients it will happen.

The more damaged lung tissue there is from smoking (or other causes) the more likely it is to leak though; often from the CT taken before the biopsy the clinician will know how likely it is to cause side effects.

You’re right, I was unlucky but there’s no smoke damage on my lungs, just one of those things. I was talking to a woman, she smoked for donkey’s years and she gave me the thumbs up when they came to say she could go home, no air leak for her. It wasn’t until they first get you up to start walking around and this sudden pain in my chest, I thought I was having a heart attack and they sent me for another X-ray and that’s when they said I had an air leak. In my family I say, with me I’m akin to Balotelli “Why always me.” Mind you, I likened the biopsy to a pneumatic drill going through my back. It felt like I was put through the mill, that’s for certain.

Meanwhile when the general population stop smoking stinky cigarettes the tax will keep rolling in from another trend which is another ticking time bomb with even more people doing it than were smoking in the last decade.

There’s the even stinkier cannabis, that’s everywhere now too.

As a non-smoker I find people vaping and puffing out plumes of that sweet, sickly smoke everywhere to be far, far more annoying than anybody having a cigarette. It’s genuinely anti-social and probably even less healthy as well.

It's vapour, not smoke and I'd be very surprised if it's less healthy. I know it's relatively early days but all research so far suggests that it's much healthier than regular smoking. I can certainly attest to feeling much healthier when vaping than smoking.

Would you not use a term like less unhealthy over healthier? You’re making vape sound like wholemeal bread.

Stopped Smoking over 12 years ago and stopped Vaping 10 years ago. Best thing I ever did, but sometimes even now still crave a Cig.
