Christ on a stick the banks there actually have no money at all. Not a single penny.

Sounds like Russia to the rescue

Like selling your soul to the devil
Cypriot finance minister in Moscow now, the Russkies are playing it cool though and are hard negotiators, from what i can gather off a Cypriot MP just on BBC they want some of the banks and the rights to the billions of Euros of gas off Cyprus.
The Cypriots might as well go along with it because it looks like the EU are getting ready to wash their hands of Cyprus, it was like mini Russia anyway when i lived there so they might as well go the whole hog

Don't think the Germans will be happy about Russia moving into their territory! Last time that happened it didn't end well for them;-)
Wonder if Merkel is on the phone to NATO?

Booked to go to protaras end of April, should this all have been sorted by then Or will there be cars burning in the streets when get there do we think ?
It will be mate, dont think they burn cars in Protaras, Nicosia and Limassol maybe but not Protaras

If youv never been to Protaras before its great, one of the best beaches and bay of crystal clear water you will ever see at Fig Tree Bay, nice strip of bars and restaurants as well, bw a bit quiet end of April though, take a coat gets a bit nippy at night

Ah great, yeah first time going to Cyprus, really looking forward to it.
Prefer something bit quieter to be honest as taking the kids so not worried about nightlife etc.
For a change of scenery and more shops etc Ayia Napa is just down the road, dont worry it is quiet in April nice beach as well

All these Eurozone crises are as a direct result of the fact that bringing in the Euro was a completely flawed concept from the outset which has succeeded in making the rich countries richer at the expense of the poorer countries. Countries like Germany have benefitted enormously from having a relatively weak currency in relation to their economy which has given them an unfair trading advantage. Meanwhile the Euro has been too strong for the less developed poorer countries making their exports less competitive. Now that the inevitable is happening, the Germans want to hang on to their gains and are unwilling to share the wealth they have accumulated directly as a result of the single currency, meaning that the poorer countries are forced into austerity measures, such as robbing bank accounts, that would not have been needed had they had their own currency which could float to the appropriate level.

There is still a chance that they could switch back to the Cyprus pound and tell the EU to go f*ck itself, the groundswell of public opinion on the streets would turn the government from villains to hero`s overnight.
Far from losing tourists it would have the opposite effect because they can set their own exchange rate ( Though to be around 40% below the euro ) so cheap deals to drag in currency would abound, as would the good will factor from people for telling the f*cking EU where to get off.

So its now the EU that are desperate to do a deal, plus the yanks are less than chuffed that this could let the russkies into the med using the same justification the good old USA has spouted for decades to have a fleet swanning up an down the med, Russian bases on Cyprus would give them nightmares.

And all because France was scared Germany might come back and ruff them up. So instead we all have to take it up the ass to help the French

Luckily, because we're not in the Euro, it's not as bad for us as it is for Spain, Italy, Portugal, Ireland, Greece and Cyprus.
