Sol Campbell court case

If the "hanging from a tree" bit is not intended to be racist then it's a very unfortunate accident. Pretty terrible imo.

You might be right of course, but my interpretation of that was in relation to their view of him being a Judas for joining Arsenal and as Judas supposedly died by hanging himself, perhaps that's where the hanging from a tree line came in. Either way, racist or not, I agree it's a pretty terrible chant.

The chant was not racist, it was homophobic apparently and went to the tune of Lord of The Dance, can we not repeat it on here???

Don's tin hat.

cant see his problem it wasnt racist as has always been know,he aint no fag so whats his problem...wish i earned 80k a week to be called a fag then go home a fuck some fit bird .........its a hard life for some...

If a chant about someone having HIV is considered to be homophobic then that is some very negative stereotyping and wrong in itself.

What's the bloody problem here cheesy.

No particular problem I just don't think this exactly adds to the forum.

Can I ask what your bloody problem is?

I originally posted without knowing what they had chanted & to try and find out if the words were any more offensive than those sung by about half the City support at the swamp last Sunday towards John O'Shea.
Thought it was worthy debate to see what other City fans thought was acceptable verbal abuse to chant at individual opposition players.

This was it, horrible.

Sol, Sol, wherever you may be, Not long now til lunacy, And we couldn't give a f***, When you're hanging from a tree, Judas **** with HIV

Please delete if offended...mods
reading those chants, i dont think its as bad as people are making out....no worse than what we were singing to o'shea at the swamp, i think its all about how players react to it, which o'shea reacted well to

Or the Ryan Giggs song... or the 'two Andy goram's song'.. Not racist or even homophobic..

Worse songs have been sung to players... Steven gerrard.. the Carlos Tevez song are 2 examples...

the chanting to Campbell was in bad taste... nothing more...

Surprised no one has said they are anti-semitic for calling him Judas, or anti-ophan for calling him a bastard or something. They may be vile, but I do not see the need to move them into a more 'prosecutable' category without solid justification.

He's a high profile professional footballer, seen more offensive stuff written about Barton in our daily rags.

Beckham puts up with it.

Everyone thinks this a new phenomenon, George Best and Gascoigne took appalling abuse in two separate eras, Best was called queer every week, Gaascoigne was called fat and retarded they just dealt with it.
Actually I have not seen more offensive stuff written about the thug Joey Barton in our daily rags. Everything written about Barton is true and anyone who saw the 'McDonalds' video where the phsyco bully kicked the shit out of some poor defenceless young kid knows that Barton got off lightly - if he were not Joey Barton he would still be 'taking it up the arse' in HMP now.

Yeah and look at what happened to Best and Gascoigne. One's six feet under after getting through two livers and the other is publically living through his issues and has been near to death himself at times.

Great examples of people who coped with being the subject of offensive chants week in and week out - I don't think.

some poor defenceless young kid

Really? You know this do you? Not defending barton's actions at all, but do you know the lead up to this incident? No? Then don't make such comments..

The chant in question was racist, homophobic and mocked him being mentally unstable.

Take action to stamp it out by all means, but I'm not sure arrests and court cases are the way to go.

So what action would you suggest? Giving them a bloody good telling off for their naughty behaviour? Or putting them on the naughty-step for 90 minutes? What else is going to stamp it out apart from getting the message across that this will not be tolerated and anyone (Yes anyone) caught doing it will be prosecuted. Just because thousands are shouting the abuse happy in the blissful ignorance that they are anonymous does not mean that action should not be taken.

No offence intended to anyone but i think the whole episode is way out of control. A multi millionaire footballer being called names ..well feck me lets put all the chanters in prison and give him a million pound compensation case against hurting his feelings...even though everyone is saying that the said person is not as song suggests !!! Grow up !!!
