My wife had day case surgery on Monday and was put in a 'broom cupboard' to wait as there were no day beds available (hold back on the Gordon the Gopher jokes please). That was the only sign of operational stress. She was very well treated by the whole care team, nurses, anaesthetist, surgeon, care assistants.
However that just about makes up for treatment during diagnosis and the run up to the op which has been very very poor and caused a high degree of stress. Bombarded with written material, much of it way out of date, operation cancelled once, communication breakdowns, the lot. Much of this easily remedied if someone took the trouble to look at their processes from a patient perspective. And this is a 'centre of excellence' cancer department which is deemed one of the best in the UK.
It wasn’t Bolton was it ? my daughter was in what could only be described as a “broom cupboard” in labour for far longer than necessary only me and her husband there, I think the nurse came in once, her baby ended up distressed and when we went looking for staff they sent her straight away for emergency C.section
It was a dreadful experience for all of us especially for her baby who is now a beautiful little girl thanks to the doctor we had to go looking for.
