Southampton (A) - Carabao Cup | Post Match Thread

What was apparent last night is we couldn't handle there press at all, all they did was pump the ball long down the channel at the first opportunity and absolutely smothered us on the press in our own third so we couldn't get out, when our keeper had it there was just no out ball at all < Cancelo, Phillips and Gomez , and even Walker just did nothing when they received it, we just struggled to even get out of our own half at times, we lacked composure from front to back,
Very honest of Gundo. Fair play to him. In any group dynamics there will always be issues that arise, it’s how you deal with them that counts. Not the first time, won’t be the last. Let’s see how Pep and the lads react on Saturday, proof will be in the pudding.
agreed, no harm in him stating facts

Some really good points. It must have been a tough watch in the stands.

In terms of Gundogan’s post match comments as well as Pep’s recent mentions of body language there is clearly something slightly off. I recall the Fernandinho clear the air talks well and I can only hope that as I type this something similar is happening with the current group. It feels like everyone needs to voice what they think is amiss and agree how to put it right.

As fans we can only speculate about post World Cup fatigue, formations, player form and what we see but I am sure there is much more to it than that. Fingers crossed there is a second coming of the Fernandinho speech and a reaction on Saturday. We have had a number of wobbles under Pep and he has always seen us right. I see no difference this time.
Some fanny comments on here moaning like fuck and they get plenty of “likes”, you make a positive point and get no “likes” (until mine just now). Pep will get it right as he always does. I fucking hate the dippers but they didn’t turn on Bingo at the start of the season. We’re struggling in certain positions but Pep couldn’t have accounted for underachieving players, including Cancelo who is nothing but a disgrace.

Dias is a leader and his absence is felt. That said, he is the only member of the current 23 out thru injury. Does anyone have an explanation for the wild shifts in player selections, formations, tactics, and such Pep insists on employing game to game because I certainly don't. It can't be down to Pep is Pep, he is great, and everyone just STFU. He had virtually his entire squad at his disposal yesterday and chose to go with Walker at CB. Along with some other eyebrow raising decisions it failed miserably so "he knows what's he doing" doesn't come close to working as an explanation. Even a notorious tinkerer like Pep has his limits, but what's been going on most of this season is hard to explain. Thoughts?
Thiink pep is always looking to amaze instead of just settling on the team and going for it . I get that we put a weakened team out yesterday and at 2-0 I’d have left if as it was and saved the main players but our league firm since the first half against Utd has been flaky and the way we slow down the temp is starting to alienate supporters . We have the best striker in he world and atm we can’t seem to string a pass to him. Pep likes to control ganes and everyone knows there place but to buy a player for £100 million who plays best when allowed to roam and trying to make him into a winger is crazy. Hoping we turn up on sat because we could be in for a nightmare if pep decides to do the ridiculous.

Can we at least be honest without it becoming a clappers v. flappers debate all the time? Pep almost always gets it right domestically, mainly in the Prem. He's also gotten it wrong more often than not in Europe. Simple facts. What fans care or don't care about is irrelevant. He's paid to succeed in both and those are the expectations of the club's hierarchy. Make no mistake about it, they want to be considered one of, if not, the best team in the World. You cannot be that without winning in Europe, at least sometimes. I'm hoping that sometime is this upcoming May.
