Southampton (A) - Carabao Cup | Post Match Thread

Southampton had more energy, desire and pressed better. Better team won. We looked lethargic and seemed to have a lack of desire. Not that much better in 2nd half. Abject performance. Need to concentrate on the league and Champions league now. Big game at weekend we need to be up for it.

The happy clappers will still put a positive spin on that. The only positive I can see is no one is injured!

Phillips looks like another shit investment.

Going off the last 5 games, Saturday is gonna be a real test.

One good game against a shite Chelsea and Leeds offered Zero resistance, is poor showing from what we are used to seeing.

Something's not quite right with the mentality of the squad, and to be honest I think Pep knows it. His comments on body language were telling.

Far too many players look like they've lost their hunger this season. And that's compounded by the fact that we've spent the last few years building the squad to fit with Pep's false 9 system, only to sign the world's best striker and try and shoehorn him in.

The result is very disappointing, but the performance far more concerning.

Thankfully Pep decided to extend, because we need him to rebuild this side again. Even if we squeak a title, it's clear we're stalling when.we should be going forward.

A couple of full backs, a top midfielder and an explosive winger are needed.

Lost that with an initial terrible team selection
We gave them two goals and fair play, Southampton capitalised and never looked like slipping up
What the starting 11 does show is that there was a lack of leadership and big money signings are only bit part players and they cannot control a game

There's very much a defensive selection dilema now for Saturday
