Southampton (A) - Carabao Cup | Post Match Thread

So poor tonight. We have set standards over the past few seasons. Alot of players are falling short of those standards to often this season! I'm not sure what's happened to cancello , he was poor before the world cup, poor at the world cup and poor since he got back, Gomez isnt quite ready, although I think he could be good enough. We have a problem at dm as Phillips needs a run on games to get up to speed but we simply can't afford to give them him at the moment. He would be better going out on loan and playing every week and we bring someone else in either on loan or a short term option. It's not all doom and gloom, we are still a great team with great players but we are not as good as last year.

Whatever we had in Pep's previous seasons we have lost. What has happened to passing sides off the pitch, opening teams up with intricate movement and slick passing because at the moment this football is fucking tripe.
I honestly think that pep and a number of players are fatigued mentally over the last couple of title wins I wouldn’t be surprised if things don’t improve he’ll go end of season..

Why would anyone want a full season of PL, CC, FAC, CL AND with a WC sandwiched in and expect full results?!!

I think this is a blessing and would expect PG not to be too bothered with this result.
Then why beat Chelsea and Liverpool?

He will do the same in the FA Cup. woman and moan about fatigue and throw the semi.

Pep and this team this season are starting to confuse me. I don’t know if we’ve regressed, just going through a bad bit of form or in transition.

Pep isn’t helping by changing the team constantly. I know you can’t play the same team every game, it just doesn’t look like the players know what they’re doing. Walker is right back one game, centre back the next. Cancelo RW, then RB, then LB. Bernardo plays everywhere. Foden is so out of form due to being moved about, or when in form he suddenly gets dropped.

With De Bruyne and Haaland on the pitch, the game plan is to get Kev on the right wing with space to cross it into Haaland. We were much more fluent against Chelsea, but then again they’re woeful so I wouldn’t pay any attention to those two games.

I think Saturdays game against them will give us the biggest indicator where we are at.
On tonight’s showing it could be 6-3 again……

Not that simple when you’re bringing on players trying to force a goal but the opposition has a 2 goal cushion and can just get all the men behind the ball and protect the lead and counter if possible.

That’s why you don’t start quarter finals with a weak side, let your opponents build up confidence and a 2 goal lead. Then you’re just chasing and forcing it.
Yes I agree. We have been caught out with this a number of times. It's madness, get the game won.then.make the changes.
