V a team low on confidence and fans getting on the managers back already, our usual slow start passing around for the sake of it at the back with constantly giving the ball away when we played it to midfield allowed them to take the game to us which got the crowd behind them And we never recovered.

Build up play is shocking ATM, way too slow playing out from the back then keep passing the ball back and forward. What happened to the days when we would have wingers running down the wing and crossing at the byline….

It was annoying we lost but it will be interesting to see how Southampton get on against Everton. Can they play with that level of energy every game?

Oh and can we PLEASE just stop slowly passing it around the opposition box for half the game?
 
The line up tonight was trying to get players back up to fitness and players who are out of form back into something like their usual selves

the following are nowhere near the first team for a number of weeks based on that

Cancelo, absolutely awful - what the hell has happened , looks like he’s forgotten how to play football. Ake is our first choice left back for the rest of the season I think

Gomez, one step forward on Sunday , three back tonight. That pass that lead to their goal should have seen him subbed straight away. Can’t defend either but neither could Zinchenko, looks like he’s going to follow Angelina as a potential project player who’s just not up to it. Still only a kid though so may get another season but only as third choice left back or auxiliary midfielder

Palmer, I really rate the kid but he’s look shot at the moment. Looks to be struggling with expectation when he starts games and is playing it too safe. Needs a spell out of the team to build him back up.

Foden, looks like playing every midfield and forward position has impacted him. Again hes lacking in confidence and nothing is coming off for him, never hides though and always puts the effort in.

I think we are going to see the following team quite a bit over the next few weeks

Phillips , Ortega & Walker also had bad games but all three have some mitigation having not play much this season or out of position in walkers case as well

Mahrez Halland Grealish
 
Awful performance and application particularly in the first half. Hideous errors for their goals. Phillips, Gomez and Ortega were awful for those.

As for Cancelo, there are simply no words. He is done. His attitude and application since he threw his dummy out after getting dropped in the WC has been an absolute disgrace. Not signing a top class left back is going to bite us big style this season.
