Southampton (A) - Carabao Cup | Post Match Thread

Cancelo gave the ball away 3 times in the first 90seconds,watch again if you don’t believe me. He was absolutely garbage tonight, utter shit
He is shockingly bad at the moment and I am not sure why. He has come back from the World cup and looked desperately poor. I just hope he can find some form until the end of the season but he is not the only one.

Wow... this tested my patience and my love for City. I wanted to kick the shit out of my man cave and burn all my memorabilia tonight at times. I think I need anger management after this one.

We were awful, plenty has been and will be said about the poor performances, but that kit clash couldn’t have helped.

Peripheral vision basically useless. At times it genuinely looked like players were struggling to quickly determine which were teammates and which were opposition. Happened even with the players coming on in the second half.

I’d include whoever approved wearing the third kit in the match ratings with a -1/10.
I know Southampton really struggled with it ….

There’s something not quite right at the club at the minute
Peps talk of “body language”
Odd team selections and formations and players being played in strange positions
Insipid performances

Wouldn’t read much into the win against Chelsea’s youth team

Every single 'top team' in the Prem will have a dip in form due to the massively stuffed season.

Injuries, form and second string players will have a big part to play this season for everyone.

Swings and roundabouts.

We haven't dipped in form, we were never in form we play well for one to two games then the level drops considerably if it wasn't for Haaland being absolutely ridiculous we'd be in a different position in the table.

Wouldn't have scored or had a shot on target playing until midnight. Were our players arsed tonight, I don't think they were

I thought I was going potty at the start of the game and not just with the performance. You couldn't even tell which team was which by the way they were shooting because we were going backwards so often. There was no contrast on shirt, shorts or socks.
Yeah, I by now means blame our woeful performance on the kit clash, but I genuinely do think it didn’t help us.

At this level, with our creative players, at the speed the match is played, peripheral vision is important. And marginal things like that have an impact.

And the Soton players looked to have trouble, as well, it wasn’t just us.

It’s just an example of the modern game gone a bit mad.

The Derby game earlier this season was the best 70 mins of football I think I have ever seen…..but we stopped playing for the last 20 and I don’t think Pep has ever picked the same side again (realise Walker has been injured)

I really think the constant rotation has caused some of the issues ( Dias is a shadow of himself)

We seem so short of pace and energy ( except against a crap Chelsea on Sunday when the press was fantastic) but the real problem is our lack of creativity In midfield.

From the Mancini days up until last season our midfield was the best bar none but not anymore.

The United decline started with their midfield…..we can’t fall into the same trap.
A Fernandinho, Silva and Yaya midfield (in their prime) would destroy this current team.
