Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "The better team won. We didn't play good, we didn't play well in the beginning. There are many games you can start not good and overcome and we didn't do it.
"When you are not prepared to play this game you arrive one inch late and don't score a goal. When you are prepared you score the goal.
"Today was a bad night, the opponent was better so we have to congratulate them. To win games you have to deserve it and tonight we didn't deserve it."
To say we were not ready is a damming comment on the starting 11. Much stronger from Pep than normal…. He must be fuming!

Cancelo had one of the worst performances from a player in recent memory. It's like he forgot how to play.

Phillips is nowhere near Rodi at controlling the game from the pivot In midfield. Overplaying the ball constantly the first half and nothing came off. Conceded twice because of it.
We bounce back against Them at the weekend and run through them.
Mrs.Dobber got it right, said Cancelo looked like he was playing with a balloon.

You can see it getting heavy for him soon, because quite frankly that was a worrying performance tonight, even bringing the big guns on failed to create a spark
That was the most alarming part of tonight.

The horrendous formation and poor selection in the first 45 was one thing… but the changes did absolutely nothing and we looked even more likely to concede.

Something very very off about tonight. It felt like the lads that came on had mentally prepared not to play and had their eyes on the weekend. If that is the case then something has changed and it’s really unprofessional and frankly arrogant.

Some of those that played today, I’m not sure we are going to see again this season.

Ortega, 4 - Beaten at his near post for the opener, caught miles off his line for the 2nd

Cancelo, 3 - Horrendous tonight, he's always bad at RB but seems to be in some kind of sulk since the World Cup
Walker, 4 - Not his fault, why did Pep play him at CB? Has he ever played there for us before?
Laporte, 6 - Well he didn't really do anything wrong, so...
Gomez, 2 - It's over for him, getting worse with every game he starts and is costing us more and more

Phillips, 3 - Clearly unfit and really needs to get up to speed or else he won't be featuring much before May/June
Gundogan, 5 - Clumsy sometimes but at least tried to get things moving through the middle
Foden, 4 - One step forward and two steps back for him this week, get him back on the RW, Pep

Grealish, 5 - Didn't really do anything wrong or right, felt like he could have stayed on
Alvarez, 5 - Tried his best tonight but snapped at a couple of chances he should have buried
Palmer, 4 - Really want him to succeed here but just don't see his development, if anything he's regressed

Subs:
De Bruyne, 4 - Hasn't been the same player since coming home from the World Cup, what's up with him?
Akanji, 5 - Well he didn't make anything worse, so he leaves the game with a bit of credit
Ake, 6 - Probably our best player, which says a lot because he was only on for 45 mins and didn't do much
Haaland, 6 - Tried to look dangerous and scared Southampton occasionally but was given basically zero service
Rodri, 7 - Re-organised the midfield in an instant, Phillips is no competition right now

the funny thing about football is, come may we are 3.0 up in the Champions League final in the last min of injury time who remembers losing to Southampton in the league cup
I will, it could've been the quadruple:)

We made the big yellow banner on sky sports news “City out of…” turned that off… why can’t I find babestation on sky glass? Another reason sky glass is as shit as that performance tonight.

Good post. Phil, Cancelo,Gundagon, even Kev to an extent have been below par. Rodri has been our most consistent performer. Pep has been below par for sure. Wish he's stop tinkering around with the team. He doesn't have to make so many changes.

Totally. What's the fucking point in preserving all this energy and trying to keep everyone happy if all you do is monumentally mess the entire season up as a result?

Just pedal to the metal it Pep and go for it! Better to burn out than fade away. Get a fucking grip City!
