Southampton (A) - Carabao Cup | Post Match Thread

Yes, which means we agree we've played well enough to be second at the moment.

Not hard to come to that conclusion.
No it's not. Although being better than teams that are poor doesn't mean we are playing well.

That does seem a hard conclusion to come to for you.

Pep is trying to keep all the players rotated and fresh ahead of our assault on the Champs League, I do think though he’s underestimated how badly affected our form and confidence would be by his constant tinkering. It started before the World Cup with his rotation of the centre halves and has continued now with full team rotation, players are bereft of any sort of form and look like strangers. Even Haaland has lost his smile.

Hopefully it pays dividends but we have a tough run over the next few weeks before the Champs starts again and we need to get back to winning ways asap.

Not good.
Agreed , but we are the back to back champions for a reason, we’ve a massive 3 games coming up from Saturday in 8 days , we beat the shit on Saturday and we are firmly back in the groove , getting beat mid week before a derby is never good , and I think it’s that that has caused the mini meltdown on here tonight , shite performance with two atrocious defensive mistakes early on cost us big time , Walker as CB? Fatty pineapple out of his depth , Gomez for the first goal ? Ortega way of his line with a player running at him in space ? those decisions and mistakes can’t be laid at Peps door. We lack rhythm , purely as you say with far too much rotation.

Yes. So we can agree we have been shite just a bit less shite than the other 18 teams
We've been a lot less "shite" than 18 others to be fair ;-), we might not be at our very best but we are still pretty good most of the time.

We started slowly on Sunday, but once we got going we played some very good football until the game was finished at 4-0 then passed it around, not letting them get a touch, good game management that, ahead of a difficult week.

Pep picked a poor team tonight, a team who then compounded it by having the worst first half we've had collectively in several years.

Well, you're using our past as a measuring stick, where we're not playing well by that metric.

However, we're not in the past, so we're playing well enough to be second at the moment.

The maths and position does not lie.

Not sure why that doesn't compute?
